✍🏼 Free Agency Winners & Losers (So Far)

Plus Dynasty Info of the Week

Happy Wednesday folks and welcome to this week’s Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter. The bulk of free agency is over, so let’s get into what went down. Of course, we’ll also have a dynasty spin from Ryan McDowell of Dynasty League Football.

There are still some quality free agents out there without homes in 2024 but a huge chunk of the fantasy-relevant players have signed their deals. Because we are still ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft it’s a tad early to declare fantasy winners and losers fully, but it’s March and there’s isn’t too much else to talk about.

So here’s my first stab at who came out on top and who got a downgrade after the initial burst of free-agent activity.

🏆 Winners

Quarterbacks

🐈‍⬛ Bryce Young, Panthers - Carolina signed two guards to elevate their offensive line and acquired Diontae Johnson via trade from the Steelers. Current 4for4 Rank: QB30

🛡️ Will Levis, Titans - Tennessee added Calvin Ridley to their WR room along with RB Tony Pollard, which should give him a higher chance of success in 2024. Current 4for4 Rank: QB29

🐻 Chicago Bears QB (Likely rookie Caleb Williams) - The additions of D’Andre Swift, Keenan Allen, and Gerald Everett will make whoever is under center’s job easier in Chicago in 2024.

Running Backs

🎖️ Guys who won just by being atop the depth chart on their new teams after free agency: Saquon Barkley, D’Andre Swift, Joe Mixon, Devin Singletary, Derrick Henry, and Josh Jacobs.

🐶 Nick Chubb, Browns - So far Chubb hasn’t been cut which is a positive sign, and the Browns only added Nyheim Hines during free agency. At least for now, Chubb’s job as Cleveland’s RB1 is safe. Current 4for4 Rank: RB25

🪺 James Conner, Cardinals - The 28-year-old wins because Arizona added DeeJay Dallas as veteran depth. Dallas got a decent contract (3 years, $8.25 million) which likely indicates they won’t be drafting an RB in April. Current 4for4 Rank: RB20

🪺 Bijan Robinson, Falcons - He’s going from an Arthur Smith offense to a Zac Robinson one and gets an upgrade at QB from Desmond Ridder/Taylor Heinicke to Kirk Cousins. Current 4for4 Rank: RB4

Wide Receivers

🪺 Drake London, Falcons - See Bijan Robinson Above. Current 4for4 Rank: WR18

👨🏻‍🏭 George Pickens, Steelers - The Steelers likely aren’t done making moves this offseason in the pass-catching department but Pickens is their WR1 at the moment and pairs well with QB Russell Wilson’s game, assuming he’s the starter. Current 4for4 Rank: WR37

🏴‍☠️ Davante Adams, Raiders - Las Vegas signed Gardner Minshew this offseason, and if he’s the starter in September, Adams should see monster targets, as Mishew hyper-targeted Michael Pittman last year in Indy (30% share). New OC Luke Getsy is also a bonus, and Adams’ two best fantasy outputs came when Getsy and Adams were the Packers. Current 4for4 Rank: WR11

🦬 Curtis Samuel, Bills - Reunited with Joe Brady, Samuel has a chance to shine in an elevated offense and should see plenty of the 81 targets left behind by Gabe Davis. Current 4for4 Rank: WR50

Tight Ends

🪺 Kyle Pitts, Falcons - See Bijan Robinson & Drake London. Current 4for4 Rank: TE8

🐯 Mike Gesicki, Bengals - Without Tyler Boyd in the slot, the Bengals may use Gesicki more in that spot but at the same time, he’s Mike Gesicki. Slight winner. Current 4for4 Rank: TE28

🚽 Losers

Quarterbacks

⚡️ Justin Herbert, Chargers - Herbert went from Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Austin Ekeler, and Gerald Everett to not much. Add in the run-heavy potential in 2024 and he takes a decent hit. Current 4for4 Rank: QB12

🐆 Trevor Lawrence, Jaguars - He lost Calvin Ridley to the Titans and gained Gabe Davis for what appears to be a net loss. Current 4for4 Rank: QB15

Running Backs

🥊 Backfield Competition Added:

  • Ty Chandler, Vikings

  • Tyjae Spears, Titans

  • Rhamondre Stevenson, Patriots

  • Dameon Pierce, Texans

  • Roschon Johnson, Bears

  • Keaton Mitchell, Ravens

  • Brian Robinson, Commanders

🪂 Meh Landing Spots:

  • Tony Pollard, Titans

  • Austin Ekeler, Commanders

  • Aaron Jones, Vikings

Wide Receivers

🐻 D.J. Moore & Keenan Allen, Bears - Moore’s value was already in flux due to the question mark at QB, but now he has to share targets with Keenan Allen in Chicago. Current 4for4 Rank: WR13

Allen gets a downgrade based on a worse QB situation and as he enters his age-32 season, may start the decline in 2024. Current 4for4 Rank: WR28

🐈‍⬛ Adam Thielen, Panthers - His WR31 performance in half-PPR points per contest last year was based on being the only game in town. Diontae Johnson kills his value plus the Panthers may not be done adding WRs this offseason. Current 4for4 Rank: WR56

🐶 Elijah Moore, Browns - He may end up getting more balls than recently acquired Jerry Jeudy, but Brown is clearly behind Amari Cooper and David Njoku and will likely be battling for the third spot in the pecking order. Current 4for4 Rank: WR58

Tight Ends

🐻 Cole Kmet, Bears - The addition of Gerald Everett, along with Keenan Allen creates a more diverse target tree and Kmet benefited from being the next best thing after D.J. Moore last season. Current 4for4 Rank: TE14

🛡️ Chigoziem Okonkwo, Titans - He’s coming off a solid 2023 campaign only to have Calvin Ridley show up to soak up any targets not headed DeAndre Hopkins’ way. Current 4for4 Rank: TE24
