Injury Update and aFPA Gems

Together with GameBlazers: The Next Generation of Fantasy Sports

This week is an important one for many hoping to clinch a playoff spot. Weā€™ve reached Hump Day of Week 14 so letā€™s get to it. Todayā€™s newsletter goes over some key injuries from last week, favorable matchups, and of course, the happenings at 4for4.

It was a rough weekend for injuries so hereā€™s an update on where they all stand heading into the latter part of Week 14.

  • Jags WR Christian Kirk - After leaving MNF early with a core muscle injury, HC Doug Pederson says the wideout will ā€œmiss some timeā€ as it will likely require surgery. Related Player: Parker Washington

  • Jags QB Trevor Lawrence - It appears Lawrenceā€™s ankle injury isnā€™t season-ending so monitor his progress moving forward through the fantasy postseason. Related Player: CJ Beathard

  • Pats RB Rhamondre Stevenson - Itā€™s a high ankle sprain for Stevenson and heā€™ll miss ā€œa few weeksā€. The NE RB is likely droppable due to their lack of playoff contention. Related Players: Ezekiel Elliott, Ty Montgomery, JaMycal Hasty

  • Rams WR Puka Nacua - Despite an AC sprain, Nacua appears to be on track to play in Week 14 but itā€™s something to monitor.

  • Packers WR Christian Watson - Itā€™s unclear how severe Watsonā€™s hamstring injury is compared to his prior issue and itā€™s something to monitor as the week progresses. Related Players: Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed

Schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed, or aFPA, is 4for4ā€™s answer to biased statistics. By removing bias, we can level the playing field and compare matchups in an "apples-to-apples" manner. This paints a more accurate picture for fantasy owners. By Week 4, we have a pretty good sample size to work from, but the data gets even more trustworthy as the season wears on. Once we hit Week 12, we'll start using rolling 10-week data so the numbers stay relevant.

Quarterbacks

 šŸŖŗ Lamar Jackson vs. Rams

After a week of rest, Jackson will face an LA defensive unit that sits 28th in QB aFPA. He had been putting fantasy points on the board mostly as a rusher prior to the Ravensā€™ bye with just one multi-touchdown game in his last five, but this is a good week to bounce back.

šŸ“ Russell Wilson @Chargers

Heā€™s the QB13 over the last four weeks and Wilson gets a soft opponent this week to keep it going. The Chargers rank 23rd in QB aFPA, yielding 17.7 fantasy points per game in 2023.

Running Backs

šŸ… Joe Mixon vs. Colts

Last week Mixon racked up 68 yards and two touchdowns on the ground with another 49 yards on six receptions. He should be heavily involved again this week to support fill-in QB Jake Browning and get a favorable matchup against the Colts as a bonus.

ā†  Isiah Pacheco vs. Bills

The KC rusher is fifth among RBs in touches per game since Week 10 (20.3) which has translated to 17.6 half-PPR points as the RB4 in that timeframe. Pacheco should post another solid number this week at home against Buffalo, as the Bills rank 26th in RB aFPA.

Wide Receivers

šŸ§² Michael Pittman @ Bengals

Pittman has eight or more receptions in each of his last five contests and will face a Cincy defense that ranks 24th in WR aFPA in Week 14. His floor is pretty safe at this point and the favorable matchup is an added bonus.

šŸ¤  CeeDee Lamb vs. Eagles

Heā€™s a must-start every contest and those who have Lamb on their rosters have even more reason to be stoked this week. Dallas gets the Eagles at home in an NFC East battle with Philly sitting dead-last in WR aFPA heading into the tilt.

Tight Ends

šŸ¦ Sam LaPorta @ Bears

Heā€™s coming off a career-high in receptions (9) and receiving yards (140) and gets a cushy opponent to keep it rolling in Week 14. Chicago is allowing 11.1 in TE aFPA per week and the rookie is ranked as 4for4ā€™s TE3 in half-PPR scoring heading into this matchup.

šŸŖŗ Isaiah Likely vs. Rams

With a full bye week to integrate into the team as Mark Andrewsā€™ replacement, Likely should have a solid outing at home against the Rams. LA is yielding the most aFPA to opposing TEs this season through 13 weeks.
