Dynasty Preview

For those of you not familiar with the dynasty format, our friends at Dynasty League Football have you covered. If youā€™re looking for something new in the fantasy football realm, check out what it has to offer with year-round action for those inclined. Here are some of the basics to wet your whistle via DLF.

Dynasty Fantasy Football Explained

What is dynasty fantasy football? A dynasty fantasy football league is a league where you retain most or all of your players from year to year. This creates an environment that is very different from that of a redraft league. By enabling team owners to keep players and build a team over time, there is a much stronger sense of team ownership. Success is achieved with a greater sense of satisfaction.

Mistakes or successes in a dynasty league can affect the fortunes of a franchise for years to come, just like in the NFL. A dynasty league also facilitates trades, including trading of draft picks, and it encourages a deeper roster pool, so young ā€˜projectā€™ players can be identified and groomed.

Whatā€™s The Difference Between A Dynasty League And A Keeper League?

A keeper league is similar to a dynasty league, but involves keeping a smaller portion of your players. Basically, a keeper league allows for a few players to be retained. A dynasty fantasy football league allows for most or all players to be retained.

The analysis and advice we offer here at DLF applies to both dynasty fantasy football leagues and keeper leagues. Regardless of which you play, DLF can help you become a champion!

Getting Started

If all this interests you, then you are ready to give a dynasty fantasy football league a try!

1. You can join a start-up or existing dynasty fantasy football league. Youā€™re better off getting in on the ground floor of a dynasty league. The initial draft is critical to the future direction of a team. If you donā€™t know anyone starting a league, and you have an opportunity to take over an existing team, then go for it. Just be aware that turning around a struggling dynasty franchise can often take several seasons.

2. If you donā€™t have access to a new or existing league, then you can start your own dynasty league. Donā€™t be intimidated if youā€™ve never played in a dynasty or keeper league before. If you are familiar with fantasy football, you can do this, and we are here to help!

The DLF Forum is a terrific resource for finding a league in need of a player, or joining a start-up league. Check the Help Wanted section often, or post there to get something started. Youā€™ll also find a ton of useful advice and helpful dynasty veterans willing to help you get started.

Weā€™ll have some dynasty news and advice in the coming weeks courtesy of Ryan McDowell, so keep an eye out!

Schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed, or aFPA, is 4for4ā€™s answer to biased statistics. By removing bias, we can level the playing field and compare matchups in an "apples-to-apples" manner. This paints a more accurate picture for fantasy owners. By Week 4, we have a pretty good sample size to work from, but the data gets even more trustworthy as the season wears on. Once we hit Week 12, we'll start using rolling 10-week data so the numbers stay relevant.

Quarterbacks

 šŸŖŗ Jalen Hurts vs. Cardinals

Hurts is the QB2 on the season, and if he got you to the title game, youā€™re going to love his Week 17 matchup. The Eagles host a Cardinalsā€™ defensive unit that sits 23rd in QB aFPA this season.

šŸŖŗ Kyler Murray @ Eagles

On the other side of the ball, Murray faces an Eagles defense that yields the sixth most fantasy points to opposing QBs this season (19.8). Heā€™s 4for4ā€™s QB11 heading into the week.

Running Backs

ā›ļø Christian McCaffrey @ Commanders

No one needs any convincing to start CMC but hereā€™s a little reassurance that heā€™s in a great spot for you this week. Washington sits dead last in RB aFPA surrendering 30.3 half-PPR points to enemy backfields per contest in 2023.

šŸ Kyren Williams @ Giants

Williams has become a must-start every week and this Sunday is no different. New York is soft against the run, yielding 21.8 points in half-PPR scoring to opposing RBs through 16 weeks.

Wide Receivers

šŸ¤  CeeDee Lamb vs. Lions

The Cowboys may be experiencing a down streak but Lamb certainly is not. Heā€™s the WR2 in half-PPR points per game this season and gets a Detroit secondary that is allowing the most fantasy points per contest to WRs thus far (35.2).

āšœļø Chris Olave @ Buccaneers

Olave has posted 100+ yards in three of his last four games and is set up for success again in Week 17. Tampa Bay gives up the second most in WR aFPA this season.

Tight Ends

šŸ¦… Dallas Goedert vs. Cardinals

Heā€™s coming off his best outing since returning from an injured forearm and gets a home contest against the Cardinals to keep it going. Arizona has been kind to opposing TEs this season, ranking 23rd in aFPA to the position.

 šŸ›”ļøChigoziem Okonkwo @ Texans

Chig boasts a 15.6% target share since the Titansā€™ Week 7 bye and has a decent floor regardless of who is under center for Tennesee. The Texans sit 26th in TE aFPA heading into this contest.
