🔥Monday Morning Fantasy Football Recap

Quarterback Scoring Returns With a Vengeance

Week 4 in fantasy football finally put to rest all of the “Where is the offense!?” grumblings over the last three weeks. As of Monday morning seven different quarterbacks scored more than 20 fantasy points and 14 quarterbacks had more than 15 fantasy points. Are we finally ready to say offense is so back, baby? Perhaps, but read on to see who some of the key performers were in Week 4.

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inboxes four days a week this season and each Monday I will bring you the highlights, lowlights, injury reports, and Monday Night Football look-ahead all here in one place.

First up are the top fantasy football headlines from a wild Week 4.

⬛🟨 Justin Fields Tramples All Over the Colts

Justin Fields continues to look absolutely rejuvenated, and although the Steelers came away with a loss, he smashed the Colts to take over the Week 4 QB1 spot headed into the two Monday Night Football games. Fields threw for 312 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 55 more plus two scores on the ground. His performances so far (he is QB6 in total points this year) have earned him a loooooong leash, and it does not look like we will see Russell Wilson anytime soon in 2024. His fantasy points have increased three straight weeks and the Steelers have the Raiders, Giants, and Commanders in three of their next five games.

🧀 Jordan Love Returns, Throws Three Picks, Still Dominates

Second only to Justin Fields this week, Jordan Love returned from his injury suffered in Brazil to help guide the Packers in a 31-29 shootout loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The bad? Love three three interceptions, including a couple at absolutely back-breaking, momentum-killing times. The good? Love threw for 389 yards and four passing touchdowns. Even with Christian Watson leaving with an ankle injury, the depth is immense in Green Bay and didn’t impact Love’s performance at all.

🥇 Jayden Daniels Is This Year’s C.J. Stroud

I should amend that to say “Overall QB1 Jayden Daniels is this year’s C.J. Stroud.” After his third 25+ point performance in four games, Daniels has passed Lamar Jackson and Baker Mayfield as the best quarterback in fantasy football so far this season. Daniels threw for 233 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 47 yards and another score. If Brian Robinson and Jeremy McNichols weren’t so efficient on the ground against a hapless Cardinals defense, it could have been a lot more. I’m not at all saying Caleb Williams is Bryce Young, but this is a case where the Washington Commanders must be thrilled they didn’t end up with the first pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

🐂 Nico Collins Was the Answer All Along

With Tank Dell sidelined it was always going to be the Nico Collins show on Sunday against a weak Jaguars pass defense. He did not disappoint, finishing with 15 targets, 12 receptions, 151 yards, and a touchdown, good enough for the WR1 spot ahead of Monday night. Somehow, with the addition of Stefon Diggs, Collins is on pace for more than 2,000 receiving yards and has almost 30% of the Texans’ targets through four games. His performance on Sunday also pushed him slightly ahead of Malik Nabers for the overall wide receiver fantasy points lead in half-PPR formats (75.9).

👑 King Henry Sits on His Throne

Derrick Henry had about two weeks’ worth of elite fantasy production in just one game as he absolutely stiff-armed the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. Henry ran for 199 yards, caught three passes for 10 yards, and scored one rushing and one receiving touchdown. He had multiple long, bruising runs including an 87-yard earthquake run on the Ravens’ first play from scrimmage. With the opposing defense having to focus on several strong pass-catchers as well as the threat of Lamar Jackson running, Derrick Henry is going to continue to have these massive games even against stout run defenses.

🐯 Chase Brown Breakout Game

The running back tide may have shifted in Cincinnati in Week 4, with Chase Brown breaking out for 17 touches and 22.2 fantasy points (RB4 heading into Monday Night Football). Brown gained 91 yards and scored two touchdowns and had the same number of rush attempts as incumbent Zack Moss. Brown did play on 13 fewer snaps, but he was far more efficient than Moss on the day and had his highest snap count of the season. Since this was a game that was high-scoring and close throughout, this is a great sign that the Bengals are trusting Brown’s ability more and more each week.

Rashee Rice was forced to leave early in the Kansas City Chiefs win over the Los Angeles Chargers after teammate Patrick Mahomes dove at his knee during a fumble recovery. It is feared Rashee Rice suffered a torn ACL, and an MRI is scheduled to try and confirm that on Monday. If he is out for the season, Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy, and Justin Watson will all see big bumps in fantasy.

Jonathan Taylor left late in the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with an ankle injury. Since the end of the game, it has been reported that Taylor has a “mild” high ankle sprain. But as with any high ankle sprain, managers should be prepared for him to miss at least one game.

Anthony Richardson was another member of the Indianapolis Colts who left Sunday’s game early. His injury was later described as a hip pointer, and there is hope Richardson can be back as soon as Week 5. In his absence, Joe Flacco came in and scored 15 fantasy points, because that is what he is apparently going to do until the end of time.

Christian Watson also suffered a high ankle sprain, and Watson’s appears to be more serious than the one suffered by Jonathan Taylor. It’s a bad break for a receiver who has worked so hard to get back from hamstring injuries. In his absence, Dontayvion Wicks led the team in target share and air yards share.

Taysom Hill scored two rushing touchdowns, but the fantasy gods thought that was enough as he was forced to leave the game against the Atlanta Falcons due to an abdomen issue. More news on the severity of the injury should come on Monday, and it is unclear whether he will be forced to miss any games moving forward.

Wide Receiver Yards: Tyreek Hill OVER Calvin Ridley (+10.5 Yards)

New quarterback Tyler Huntley is about the best possible scenario for players like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle if Tua Tagovailoa is going to be out this season. Skylar Thompson could not get the ball downfield, but that won’t be Huntley’s problem. The Dolphins clearly made a switch to a quarterback that can more adequately distribute the ball to their two best playmakers and after two miserable weeks, the Dolphins will look to get Hill involved.

Calvin Ridley is certainly a big part of the Titans’ offense, but he is held back by Will Levis who ranks 24th in both accuracy rating and deep ball completion percentage. Look at it this way. Will Levis is 10th among quarterbacks in air yards this year but is 24th in passing yards. Ridley suffers from Levis’s inaccuracy and won’t be able to keep up with Hill on Monday.
