🔥Monday Morning Fantasy Football Recap
Buccaneers and Lions Combine for 98 Points in Road Games
Week 6 was another brutal week for fantasy football injuries, and unfortunately, it’s becoming a major storyline every week of the season. Already filling in for players who were hurt in Week 6, players like Bucky Irving, Joe Flacco, Darius Slayton, and Kimani Vidal had big days. Now there is a high likelihood we see more reserves in featured roles next week due to the sheer volume of injuries in Week 6. Injuries seem to be more rampant this season, proving the theory that your fantasy team’s performance has very little to do with how you draft, but rather how you manage your team in-season.
The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inboxes four days a week this season and each Monday I will bring you the highlights, lowlights, injury reports, and Monday Night Football look-ahead all here in one place.
First up are the top fantasy football headlines from a wild Week 6.
🏴☠️ Baker, Bucky, and Tucker Combine for Huge Buccaneers Day
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense seemingly can not be stopped right now. They scored 51 points on the road in New Orleans thanks to four touchdowns for Baker Mayfield, and huge days from both Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker in the absence of Rachaad White. Chris Godwin had 11 catches for 125 yards and two scores and is now the number one wide receiver in fantasy football.
Tampa Bay is tied with Washington for the NFL lead in points scored through six weeks and according to NFL public relations, just became the fifth team ever with more than 300 yards passing and 275 yards rushing in a single game. This offense is simply incredible right now and there isn’t a single piece of it you don’t want on your fantasy roster right now.
In today's @Buccaneers victory, they became the 5th team in @NFL history to total 300+ passing yards (325) and 275+ rushing yards (277) in a game, joining the below:
Miami in Week 3, 2023
San Francisco in Week 5, 2012
Dallas in Week 1, 1978
Green Bay in Week 9, 1962— NFL345 (@NFL345)

🦁 Goff and Montgomery Roar and Ride Over Cowboys
Let me just put it this way. You know this game was out of hand when the Detroit Lions were actively trying to get their offensive linemen touchdowns and different times mid-way through the fourth quarter. Despite losing their defensive anchor (more on that below), the Lions completed perhaps their most complete win of the season by beating the Cowboys 47-9 on the road.
Jared Goff threw three touchdowns to three different receivers, David Montgomery rushed for two scores, and even Jahmyr Gibbs finished with 91 total yards. The Lions took advantage of a Cowboys’ pass defense that can not stop anyone this year and befuddled Dak Prescott with pressure and secondary looks that took anyone not named CeeDee Lambd completely out of this game.
🏈 Drake Maye Looks to be Worthy of a Roster Spot
The Houston Texans’ dominating pass rush is going to be a tough task for any NFL quarterback, much less a rookie making his first career start. However, after some shaky moments in the first half, Drake Maye shook that off and made some impressive plays with his arms and his legs, showing why he was the number three overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Drake Maye's first career touchdown pass to Kayshon Boutte (40-yard TD) traveled 51.7 yards in the air, the longest completion by a Patriots quarterback over the last three seasons.

Maye threw three touchdowns and led the team in rushing with 38 yards. That performance currently has him in the top 10 quarterbacks for Week 6 heading into Monday Night Football. He now looks like he could be an extremely capable injury or bye-week fill-in considering New England has the Jaguars and Titans in two of their next three weeks.
💐 Zay Flowers Dominates the First Half, Silent in Second Half
At halftime of the game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Washington Commanders, it looked like we were on the verge of an all-time great performance from Zay Flowers. He had nine catches on nine targets for 132 yards (a career-high). But then in the second half, we did not hear from him again. Flowers did not even see a target in the second half as the Ravens played keep-away from Washington to try and preserve their lead with the ground game. In these games where Baltimore is going to be forced into any kind of shootout, Flowers should stand out as a great play those weeks and this half-to-half production should prove to be fluky.
💥 Joe Mixon Returns With a Bang For Houston
After missing three weeks with an ankle injury, there was concern about how big a workload Joe Mixon would have on the road in New England. Well, the answer to that question was a resounding “massively big,” and Mixon ran all over the Patriots in Week 6. Mixon touched the ball 15 times for 152 total yards and two touchdowns as the Texans roughed up the Patriots 41-21. Four other Texans players also combined for 15 rush attempts in this game, so there is actually room for more Joe Mixon in future weeks as his ankle starts feeling better and better.

🍵 Tea for Two in London for Cole Kmet
Both Cole Kmet and Keenan Allen got double touchdown duty in London as the Chicago Bears smacked Jacksonville in the Jaguars’ home away from home. Caleb Williams looked fantastic for the third week in a row, and he targeted Cole Kmet early and often. Kmet tied with Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore for the team-high in targets (five) and used those to get 70 yards and two scores. All the early-season worries about Gerald Everett taking his job have now been sufficiently put to rest.
💩 Cleveland Hates its Fans so Deshaun Watson Will Remain Quarterback
Filed under the category of “Why do the reporters keep asking the same question hoping for a different answer?” After another miserable Deshaun Watson performance, browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed once again that he will be the quarterback going forward. At this point, his performances have been so bad and this decision to play him has become such a farce that it’s become almost laughable. Considering how inaccurate and inefficient Watson has been this season, I don’t see how you can comfortably start any Browns player in fantasy right now. On Sunday, Watson threw for under 200 yards (again), threw no touchdowns, and took five sacks.
Marvin Harrison Jr. left the game against the Green Bay Packers after seeing two targets, neither of which led to a reception. He was evaluated for a concussion and did not return to the game. Our current environment typically forces players to miss a game when a concussion is confirmed, so fantasy managers might want to prepare for being without Harrison for next week.

Chris Olave also left his game with a confirmed concussion, and he missed out on the points extravaganza in New Orleans. If Olave misses next week, Rashid Shaheed, Juwan Johnson, and Alvin Kamara would be the biggest beneficiaries with Spencer Rattler under center again in Week 7. Rattler looked competent in his debut and should keep most of these Saints fantasy-relevant during Derek Carr’s absence.
Dallas Goedert was forced to leave the Eagles’ game against the Browns very early due to a hamstring injury and he did not return. More tests will be run on Monday to determine the severity of the injury, but Eagles fans can at least take solace in the fact that DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown returned on Sunday and played well.
Dontayvion Wicks hurt his shoulder during the Week 6 game against Arizona and reports after the game suggested it was a sprain that was painful enough that it did not allow him to return. While he was out, we saw big production from each of the three starting wide receivers: Jayden Reed, Christian Watson, and Romeo Doubs. There is not much left of the receiving pie after those three and Tucker Kraft are involved.
Dontayvion Wicks told me his shoulder is only sprained. Happened at end of 9-yard catch on third down in 1H. Didn’t return, but expects injury will not be long term.
“Just pain. Couldn’t really move it.”
Asked him about next week: “I’m day to day. I’m going to be good.”

Jerome Ford was another player who suffered a hamstring injury that forced him to leave the game and not return. In his absence, D’Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong filled on the ground game. There are reports of Nick Chubbs returning to the field in Week 7, so depending on how serious this injury is for Ford, we could be looking at a very messy backfield on the Browns for the time being.
Aidan Hutchinson may not be fantasy-relevant in most leagues, but he is an essential part of the identity of the Detroit Lions, so it was heartbreaking to see him leave Sunday’s game with a gruesome broken leg. This injury, while not yet confirmed, will likely keep him out the rest of the season which significantly impacts the Detroit pass rush and defense as a whole.
#Lions star Aidan Hutchinson, who would have been a top candidate for defensive player of the year, suffered a broken tibia, coach Dan Campbell told reporters.
He’ll stay in a Dallas area hospital overnight and will be “down for a little while,” per Campbell.

In addition to these players, Ladd McConkey, Joe Burrow, Darius Slayton, Quentin Johnson, Baker Mayfield, and Jayden Reed all left their respective games to be checked out for injury but later returned. It will be worth monitoring if any of these players are limited or miss practice during this next week.

Rushing Yards: Breece Hall OVER Josh Allen (+15 Rushing Yards)
On Sunday, a report from Jay Glazer expressed that new Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich is committed to a run-heavy approach as he takes over play-calling for the team. To that, I would say, “Of course!” When you have one of the league’s best running backs, use him as much as possible. I expect a heavy dose of Breece Hall and Braelon Allen on Monday night.
The Jets’ interior defense and pass rush are likely to contain Josh Allen and pressure him all night, especially if he is without James Cook and/or Khalil Shakir. On the season, the Jets have allowed the seventh-fewest rushing yards to quarterbacks, just 74 yards in five games including no rushing touchdowns.
