🔥Monday Morning Fantasy Football Recap

Taysom Hill and the Detroit Lions Highlight a Fantasy High-Scoring Bonanza

After a low-scoring fantasy week last Sunday, things really picked up in Week 11 with nine teams scoring at least 25 points, and some wild fantasy scores coming in from quarterbacks, wide receivers, and tight ends. Taysom Hill and the dominant Lions were the major storylines (more on both below), but unless you relied on players for the Falcons, Jaguars, and Titans, you are likely happy with how your team performed.

Week 11 featured the return of quarterbacks to their starting roles, the re-emergence of struggling running backs, and record-breaking days from wide receivers and tight ends. There are always major busts in any fantasy week (looking at your Travis Kelce and Garrett Wilson!), but from a macro view, it’s always good to see the scoring return to a fantasy football slate.

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inboxes four days a week this season and each Monday I will bring you the highlights, lowlights, injury reports, and Monday Night Football look-ahead all here in one place.

First up are the top fantasy football headlines from a wild Week 11.

💪 Taysom Hill Dominates Everywhere in the Box Score on Sunday

With 138 rushing yards, 50 receiving yards, 18 passing yards, 42 kick return yards, and three total touchdowns on Sunday, Taysom Hill had a fantasy game for the ages as he ran over, around, and through the Cleveland Browns en route to 38.5 fantasy points in half-PPR scoring. His 138 rushing yards and 10 targets were both career-highs. His fantasy day would have been truly record-breaking if not for an interception and a lost fumble mixed in yesterday.

That is now 23 total opportunities in the last two games for Taysom Hill after he missed four games earlier in the season due to injury. With their wide receiver corps decimated, the Saints and new coach Darren Rizzi have made it clear Hill is going to be the focal point of the offense going forward.

🦁 5 Lions Score in 52-5 rout of Jacksonville Jaguars

The Detroit Lions are now just one missed field goal in Week 5 away from being just the sixth team ever with three 50-point games in one season after defeating the hapless Jaguars 52-6 on Sunday afternoon. Five different players scored touchdowns for Detroit including all the players you started in your lineup plus backup tight end Brock Wright who was filling in for Sam LaPorta.

Amon-Ra St. Brown is the highest-scoring wide receiver on the week heading into Monday Night Football (11 receptions, 161 yards, two touchdowns). Jared Goff (412 passing yards and four touchdowns) is the highest-scoring quarterback and both Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery are top-five in running back points. With Sunday’s performance, the Lions now have the most points scored in the league and are a full three points per game higher than the next team behind them (Baltimore).

Bo Nix Ascends to Fantasy Superstardom

Before Week 11, Bo Nix was already on the cusp of being a fantasy star at quarterback. He ranked as WR12 in points per game and had five straight games with at least 14 points in standard formats. With the Atlanta Falcons in town, Bo Nix threw four touchdowns and scored 29 fantasy. He is now QB9 on the year with 18.2 fantasy points per game. The scary thing is, he has been doing it without the rushing yards we know he can pile up week to week. Over the last four games, Nix has five or fewer yards on the ground. The most likely reason for that is the Broncos find themselves squarely in the playoff picture and don’t want to risk losing their franchise quarterback to injury.

🐏 Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua Put On a Receiving Clinic

With the LA Rams’ offense finally back at full strength, Cooper Kupp (six catches, 106 yards, and two touchdowns) and Puka Nacua (seven catches, 123 yards, one touchdown) torched the New England Patriots through the air in a 28-22 victory on the road. Even with both receivers missing multiple games this year, the Rams are still seventh in the NFL in passing yards per game and have a very favorable schedule for wide receivers to close out the season. The Eagles, Saints, Seahawks, and Cardinals all still remain on their schedule to close out the year.

4️⃣9️⃣ Jauan Jennings Powers San Francisco Offense

With Brandon Aiyuk on IR and George Kittle missing the Week 11 game with an injury, Jauan Jennings became the focal point of the San Francisco 49ers offense with 11 targets, 10 receptions, 91 yards, and a touchdown. He had multiple tough catches in traffic and consistently fought for yards to help keep undermanned San Francisco in the game against Seattle. Jennings now has 22 targets in the last two games and has emerged as a primary weapon while Kittle heals and Christian McCaffrey shakes off the rust and works his way back into game shape.

🐎 Anthony Richardson Returns and Looks Like a New Quarterback

The Anthony Richardson that returned from a benching against the New York Jets looked nothing like the skittish, inaccurate version that the Colts decided to sit four games ago. Richardson finished with 272 passing yards, one passing touchdown, 32 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns including the game-winner against the New York Jets. The 272 passing yards and two rushing touchdowns were both career-highs for Richardson. He completed 67% of his throws and looked more confident deciding when to throw to his receivers and when to tuck the ball in and run. This could signal a new era for Richardson where he looks like the top-six quarterback he was drafted to be in the 2024 fantasy offseason.

Darnell Mooney suffered a hamstring and knee injury during the blowout loss to the Denver Broncos which caused him to leave the game early. Mooney declared after the game that “I’ll be fine,” but we should wait on official confirmation from the Falcons before we know exactly how to use him moving forward.

Zamir White has moved into a backup role for the Las Vegas Raiders (although he out-snapped Alexander Mattison today), but he did suffer a quad injury in Sunday’s game and was forced to leave for a period of time. Mattison was also injured in the game, but there has been no indication yet of the severity of the injury.

Alexander Mattison suffered what could be a serious ankle injury against the Miami Dolphins. Speculation online is all over the place right now, but there seems to be a consensus that this could be a multi-week injury. The Raiders will run more tests on Monday to determine whether Mattison will miss time and how many weeks he might have to sit.

Tyjae Spears recently returned from injury, but immediately went into concussion protocol in Week 11 after suffering a nasty hit to the head. It’s not clear the severity of the concussion at this point, but the trend in the NFL this year is for players to often miss a week after they are officially placed in the concussion protocol by their team during the week.

Gabe Davis was incredibly ineffective against the Detroit Lions in the blowout loss to the Lions, and then he added injury to insult by hurting his leg in the game. Considering the state of the scoreboard at the time, it’s hard to gauge whether or not Davis could have come back if this was a more evenly matched game. But the team should release official information on his injury by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Ladd McConkey injured his shoulder in an out-of-bounds catch early in Sunday Night Football. He went to the medical tent, then the locker room but was eventually allowed to come back into the game against Cincinnati where he caught 123 receiving yards. This is an injury to monitor as his health will depend a lot on how the shoulder responds the day after without adrenaline pumping through his body.

Receiving Yards: Tank Dell OVER Jalen Tolbert (+25 yards)

It’s hard not to overreact to one box score with Cooper Rush at quarterback, but he showed absolutely no desire to throw the ball down the field in Week 10 against Philadelphia. Jalen Tolbert saw five targets but only caught three for 14 yards as Rush somehow completed 13 passes for just over 3.0 yards per completion.

Tank Dell, on the other hand, has Nico Collins coming back and Dell thrives when he has Collins on the opposite side drawing away defenders and high safeties. Dallas is now ranked 32nd in the league with 7.8 yards allowed per pass attempt, so some big plays to Tank Dell may definitely be in the game plan on Monday Night Football.
