🔥Monday Morning Fantasy Football Recap

The Baltimore Ravens Offense Continues to Soar

At home against a stingy Denver Broncos defense, the Baltimore Ravens shrugged them off for a dominant 41 points including 133 yards and two scores from Derrick Henry, three touchdown passes from Lamar Jackson, and 127 yards and two scores from Zay Flowers. Patrick Ricard was also given an invite to the scoring party with a receiving touchdown. It was a methodical and overwhelming performance by the offense which is firing on all cylinders and in all aspects of their side of the ball.

The only downside to these types of performances is that when you know Henry and Jackson will get their points, some players will inevitably be left out. That was the tight ends in Week 9. Mark Andrews saw just two targets in this game while Isaiah Likely had one with zero receptions. New addition Diontae Johnson ran six routes but didn’t have a target. It’s scary to think about how good this offense can be with someone like him as the third receiving option.

One of the great mysteries of the 2024 may end up being how the Ravens ever lost three games when all is said and done.

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inboxes four days a week this season and each Monday I will bring you the highlights, lowlights, injury reports, and Monday Night Football look-ahead all here in one place.

First up are the top fantasy football headlines from a wild Week 9.

🦅 Saquon Barkley Dominates the Jaguars

I’m not sure what was more impressive about Saquon Barkley’s performance against Jacksonville on Sunday. The fact that he had 199 total yards and two touchdowns, or the fact that he hurdled backward over a Jacksonville defender en route to a big gain. His huge day further solidified his stake as the number one running back in all of fantasy football no matter the format. Halfway through the season, Barkley is already up to 925 rushing yards, 146 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns through eight games. His 5.9 yards per carry on the ground is currently on pace to be his best season ever.

🐅 Joe Burrow Cashes in Against Las Vegas

Even with no Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase being held under 50 receiving yards. Joe Burrow still managed to throw for 251 passing yards and five touchdowns. All of Chase Brown, Mike Gisecki (twice), Drew Sample, and Andrei Iosivas got a touchdown as Cincinnati frequently benefited from short fields due to five sacks and two lost fumbles by Gardner Minshew and backup Desmond Ridder for Las Vegas. This was just Burrow’s second game of his career to throw for five touchdowns with the other coming less than one month ago when he threw five in the shootout with Baltimore on October 6th.

🐬 De’Von Achane Continues to Dominate for Miami

Saquon Barkley was the only running back on the day that could top De’Von Achane’s latest smash start. He finished the game against Buffalo with 63 rushing yards, eight receptions, 58 receiving yards, and two total touchdowns (one on the ground, one through the air). Achane has been the clear beneficiary of Tua Tagovailoa being back as defenses can now not sit eight men in the box against lesser competition. This has freed up numerous rushing and passing lanes for Achane and he is now proving why he was a mid-second-round pick in draft season. In his last two games, he has 268 total yards and three touchdowns.

🔥 Jaxon Smith-Njigba Has a Career Day

With no D.K. Metcalf on the field in Week 9, Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a career day in Seattle’s overtime loss to Los Angeles. Heading into Monday Night Football, JSN led all wide receivers in fantasy points after posting seven catches, 180 yards, and two touchdowns on 13 targets. It was JSN’s first career game with two touchdowns, and it is just another game in a growing pile of evidence that he deserves more playing time, more targets, and a larger role in the Seattle passing game. This is already the third time this year he has 12 or more targets, and fortunately, only once in his last six games does he have fewer than seven balls thrown his way.

🐏 Demarcus Robinson Steps up With Puka Nacua Ejected

After one catch for 11 yards, wide receiver Puka Nacua for the Los Angeles Rams was ejected in Seattle. Enter Demarcus Robinson who turned that surprise opportunity into nine targets, six receptions, 94 yards, and two touchdowns, including the phenomenal game-winning, one-handed touchdown in overtime. Nacua should be back next week, but this reminder from Robinson should show us that if Cooper Kupp or Nacua should happen to get injured again this season, Robinson would be a must-start.

🎃 Backups Jameis Winston and Joe Flacco Turn Into Pumpkins

After Joe Flacco and Jameis Winston looked like saviors in their respective last games for Indianapolis and Cleveland, both turned back into rotting pumpkins now that October is over. On Sunday night football, Joe Flacco threw for 179 yards and one interception while taking several sacks on the night. The Colts scored zero offensive touchdowns and the offensive line could not protect Flacco from the Vikings’ pressure all night.

Jameis Winston, in the very next game after he threw for 334 yards and three touchdowns, came back against the Chargers and threw for 235 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. He also took six sacks in a game where he did his best Deshaun Watson impression. Expect this to continue to be a season of ups and downs for these replacement QBs.

Dak Prescott suffered what could be a serious hamstring injury against the Atlanta Falcons and was replaced by Cooper Rush in the second half. Owner Jerry Jones said it could be an injury they are “concerned” about, so now the Cowboys wait for more tests early in the week to determine if and how much time their franchise quarterback will miss.

Caleb Williams left very late in Sunday’s game against Arizona with an ankle injury. The outcome of the game was already decided, and after the game head coach Matt Eberflus said “he came in and looks to be fine.” This is just a situation to monitor heading into Week 10.

CeeDee Lamb will undergo an MRI early this week for an AC joint issue after he injured his shoulder and was briefly forced to leave the game against Atlanta. There are currently conflicting reports about whether or not CeeDee Lamb currently plans to play in Week 10, so the results of the MRI will go a long way to determining his availability.

Drake London left the game against Dallas with what is being described as both a hip pointer and a strained oblique. Medical professionals on social media are saying this is not a long-term concern and he should be good to play, but meanwhile, we are waiting for official word from the team.

Chris Olave suffered another concussion on Sunday against Carolina and was forced to leave the game and was sent to a local hospital. Olave later posted that he was all right, but it was an extremely scary hit after a throw from Derek Carr that led him directly into oncoming defenders. Olave has five documented concussions since 2020, so we could be looking at an extended time away after this one.

Keon Coleman injured his wrist in the Buffalo Bills’ win against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Defender Jordan Poyer hit Coleman square on the hand with his helmet as Coleman attempted to make a reception, and it forced Coleman out of the game. Now we wait to see if this was a bruise, a fracture, or something else that could keep the rookie wide receiver out for any length of time.

A.J. Brown left in the first half of the Eagles win over the Jaguars and did not return in the second half. He was taken down awkwardly by defenders and speculation as of Sunday night is that it could be an MCL issue. That injury could be mild and allow Brown to come back next week or it could be an injury that requires 2-4 weeks to heal depending on the severity. The results of his MRI early this week will be key, but early reports from Monday morning suggest Brown avoided serious injury.

Passing Yards: Baker Mayfield (+13) OVER Patrick Mahomes

This line on passing yards tonight seems to be pretty skewed considering what each player has done this season. Baker Mayfield (273.6 passing yards per game) throws for almost 40 yards per game more than Patrick Mahomes (235.9). Plus, the Buccaneers (59.5%) throw at a much higher rate than the Chiefs (52.1%) in 2024.

Without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay is a nine-point underdog in this game, which could mean plenty of garbage time for Baker Mayfield to pad his passing stats. The corollary to that, of course, is that the Chiefs may spend large parts of the second half running the ball to protect a lead.
