Christian McCaffrey Returns on a Low-Scoring Fantasy Day
After the offensive bonanza from Thursday night when the Ravens beat the Bengals 35-34, fantasy managers were hoping for more of the same on Sunday (especially if their squad had to face JaāMarr Chase this week). What they got was a whole other story. Only three teams (Buffalo, Arizona, and Philadelphia) scored at least 30 points. On the other side, four teams scored seven points or fewer and 11 out of 24 teams playing scored fewer than 20 points on Sunday.
This will inevitably lead to low-scoring fantasy matchups this week unless you were loaded up with players from the Thursday night matchup. However, despite all the duds that emerged from a crazy Week 10, there were also a number of studs that deserve a call-out for their fantasy football managers.
The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inboxes four days a week this season and each Monday I will bring you the highlights, lowlights, injury reports, and Monday Night Football look-ahead all here in one place.
First up are the top fantasy football headlines from a wild Week 10.
šŖ Christian McCaffrey Returns With a Full Workload
Christian McCaffrey was active for the first time all season after rehabbing an Achilles injury that was a surprise to most fantasy managers who drafted him with the first overall pick this summer. McCaffrey did not score a touchdown, but he did touch the ball 19 times for 107 yards. Perhaps most importantly, the backup running backs who have been holding down the fort for the last nine weeks did nothing in this game to make us think this will be any kind of timeshare.
#49ers Christian McCaffrey's season debut:
- 19 total touches for 107 total yards
- 13 rushes for 39 yards
- 6 catches for 68 yards on 7 targets

Jordan Mason and Isaac Guerendo each carried the ball one time and neither caught a pass. That is good news for McCaffrey who will look to continue to shake off the rust in Week 11 in a very good divisional matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
š¦ Jared Goff and the Lions Win Despite 5 Interceptions
According to NFL.com, Jared Goff became just the third quarterback in the last 30 years to win a game in which they threw five interceptions. The Lions were able to accomplish that by locking down on defense and now allowing the Houston Texans to score a point in the second half after giving up 23 in the first half.
David Montgomery, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Sam LaPorta all scored a touchdown. Jahmyr Gibbs had over 100 total yards. Even Jake Bates was a fantasy hero with two kicks over 50 yards in the final 5:01 of the game. The Lions keep finding a way to grind out gritty wins and are keeping fantasy managers happy in the process (unless you started Jared Goff, of course).
š» Chicago Bears Held Out of Endzone for Second Straight Week
After the disastrous Hail Mary ending for the Chicago Bears last week, their team needed a boost against the lowly New England Patriots. Instead, what they got was more dysfunction and a second straight game with no touchdowns. Caleb Williams had 120 passing touchdowns and was sacked nine times. DāAndre Swift managed just 3.7 yards per carry. Keenan Allen, D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and Cole Kmet COMBINED for 104 receiving yards. With the Packers, Lions, Vikings, and 49ers up next for Chicago, this might be a stay-away team for fantasy football for a while.
š¦ While Jalen Hurts Soars, Cowboys Crash and Burn
Jalen Hurts continued his dominant play over the last month on Sunday, when he torched the undermanned Dallas Cowboys for two passing touchdowns and two rushing scores as the Eagles soared over the Cowboys 34-6. Even with an interception and a lost fumble tossed in, Hurts was the highest-scoring quarterback heading into Monday Night Football.
Jalen Hurts over the last 5 games:
- 1,259 total yards
- 16 TDs
- 72% completion percentage
- 125 passer rating
- 5-0ā Brenden Deeg (@BrendenDeeg_)

On the other side of the ball, Cooper Rush and Trey Lance put up very little fight and found a way to make players like CeeDee Lamb, Rico Dowdle, and Jake Ferguson largely irrelevant as the Cowboys only managed 163 total yards of offense. Rico Dowdle and Jake Ferguson are probably easy choices to sit going forward but will CeeDee Lamb be forced into irrelevancy going forward? Thatās a question to continue to evaluate as the Cowboys face off with a pass-friendly defense against Washington on Thursday.
š„ Marquez Valdes-Scantling Outpaces all Other Wide Receivers
Heading into Monday Night Football, no wide receiver had more fantasy points than oft-troubled Marquez Valdes-Scantling for the New Orleans Saints. Entering the game without Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, and Bub Means, the Saints went out and grabbed MVS for free and deployed him all over the field against the Atlanta Falcons. MVS had a short, goal-line touchdown as well as one of his patented long-bomb scores. Despite his past history of drops and inconsistency, MVS will be a prime waiver wire pickup this week considering New Orleansā offensive tendencies and lack of receiving options.
š Rookie Ricky Pearsall Has First Elite Game
One of the best stories to come out of Week 10 was the amazing game produced by rookie Ricky Pearsall. In case you forgot, Pearsall was shot in an armed robbery before the season started and missed the San Francisco 49ersā first six games as a result. After a couple of mediocre games where he combined for 59 yards, Pearsall exploded for four catches, 73 yards, and a touchdown as the 49ers won a tight, hard-fought game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Perhaps more encouragingly, Pearsall saw six targets, the same as Deebo Samuel and one fewer than Christian McCaffrey.
Najee Harris turned his ankle in the game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. He was able to go back into the game, but this could end up being a Joe Mixon situation. Mixon rolled his ankle but came back in just because of adrenaline and a new tape job. Then he missed three weeks because the diagnosis came back as a severe sprain. More will be known after early-week tests.
Najee Harris -
Concern on his right knee and/or ankle. Winds up getting landed on and twisted up by multiple defenders, hard to tell what exactly happened.
But he was seen standing on the sideline by his coach so itās not too serious.ā Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT (@jmthrivept)

Sam LaPorta left Sunday nightās game against the Houston Texans with an injured shoulder and did not return. It was shaping up to be a big game for LaPorta, who had several catches and a touchdown before he left the game. Dan Campbell said after the game that they consider LaPorta day-to-day and will hope he progresses enough to play next week or the week after, although we will know more early in the week.
Dan Campbell says Sam LaPorta has a sprain in the AC joint, but it's not something he's super worried about.
"He might miss this week" and then they'll see.

Dalton Kincaid sustained a knee injury at some point during the contest against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. He left the game and wanted to continue but he told reporters that he just couldnāt get back in and put on a lot of weight on the leg. He too will have early-week tests to see how severe this injury might be.
Monday Night Football Play on Bleacher Nation Fantasy.
Receiving Yards: Cooper Kupp OVER Jaylen Waddle (+25)
This matchup is one of the more obvious picks of the year for me. Iām smashing this one into play as early and often as I can before Monday Night Football kicks off.
In his full games this season, Cooper Kupp is averaging over 88 yards per game. He has a 32.5% target share (third among all receivers) and has 302 yards despite playing only about 3.5 games this season. Meanwhile, Jaylen Waddle looks like persona non grata in Miami, and has had not more than 46 yards in a game since Week 1.
With the LA Ramsā defense improving, and the Ramsā offense, including Kupp, finally healthy, I believe Kupp should fly past the number for Waddle if this seasonās precedence holds for Monday Night Football. Miami has been scoring with the run since Tua Tagovailoaās return, which has taken away almost all red zone work for Jaylen Waddle as well.
