šŸˆ Monday Morning NFL Fantasy Recap šŸˆ

šŸ”, Elementary, My Dear Watson

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter comes to your inbox seven days a week throughout the NFL season, and I bring you the Monday recap each and every week. For those of you who donā€™t know me, I helped create DynastyLeagueFootball back in 2006 and have been writing about fantasy football for nearly 20 years.

I truly love this time of year, so letā€™s get to it!

As always, there were some serious storylines that developed in Week 7. Letā€™s take a look at some of the headlines you could easily see today as the fantasy world reacts.

Elementary, My Dear Watson

The Deshaun Watson era in Cleveland has been nothing short of a disaster. After being deemed healthy enough to start this week, Watson didnā€™t last long, going 1-for-5 for five yards with an interception before being knocked out of a game yet again. While he passed concussion protocols, the team decided to keep him out for ā€œprotection purposes.ā€ The fact of the matter is Watson hasnā€™t been able to make simple plays, no less the more complex ones heā€™s being paid for. There is a story starting to develop here and itā€™s not good for anyone with Watson on their fantasy roster.

Chief Concerns

The Kansas City offense has sputtered some this year but they got back on track against a Chargers team that just canā€™t stop the pass. Patrick Mahomes (424 yards and four touchdowns) and Travis Kelce (12 catches for 179 yards and a touchdown) may just be poised for one of their patented multi-game runs of dominance and anyone who is playing against either should be very concerned.

Empty Kupp

There were legitimate concerns about Puka Nacuaā€™s role in the Rams offense when Cooper Kupp returned. Well, after Nacua caught eight passes for 154 yards on 12 targets and Kupp had just two catches for 29 yards this week, many are wondering if Nacua has even leapfrogged Kupp as Matthew Staffordā€™s favorite option. Itā€™s a crazy turn of events and one worth monitoring going forward.

Commanding Attention

It wonā€™t show up in many news outlets but the Washington Commanders backfield needs to be looked at. Chris Rodriguez led Washington with 31 yards on the day and is starting to eat into the workload of Brian Robinson. At this point, Rodriguez should be on fantasy rosters in case this continues.

Hurts so Good

The Eagles offense hadnā€™t looked great all season but they took a big step forward in a big win against Miami on Sunday night. Jalen Hurts (300 total yards and three touchdowns) and A.J. Brown (10/137/1) were huge as Philadelphia overpowered the Dolphins. Brown has tied the all-time record for consecutive games with at least 125 passing yards and will have a chance to set a new mark next week against the Commanders. I wouldnā€™t bet against him.

As always, there were injuries destined to affect fantasy leagues moving forward but this week was relatively quiet.

Bijan Robinson was reportedly not feeling well during the game and had just one carry for three yards in a performance that totally sunk fantasy managers. Still, there are no indications this is going to be any kind of long-term ailment.

Itā€™s going to be interesting to see how the Browns handle Deshaun Watson this week. While he passed initial concussion tests during the game, will he still be placed into the leagueā€™s protocol? Fantasy owners with Watson as their QB1 need to be looking elsewhere, regardless.

The 49ers and Vikings battle tonight in what seems like a must-win for a Minnesota team grasping for hope. There are two big questions going into the game.

1.) Who will truly replace Justin Jefferson while heā€™s on IR for the Vikings? Will KJ Osborn or Jordan Addison be the play moving forward? Tonightā€™s game is going to be another indicator as to what we should expect.

2.) Can Brock Purdy bounce back? With Christian McCaffrey expected to play, all eyes will be on Purdy, who is facing his first bit of adversity after struggling last week in a loss to Cleveland.
