🗞️ Monday Morning NFL Recap

Where there's a Will, there's a way!

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter comes to your inbox seven days a week throughout the NFL season, and I bring you the Monday recap each and every week. For those of you who don’t know me, I helped create DynastyLeagueFootball back in 2006 and have been writing about fantasy football for nearly 20 years.

I truly love this time of year, so let’s get to it!

As always, there were some serious storylines that developed in Week 8. Let’s take a look at some of the headlines you could easily see today as the fantasy world reacts.

Sunken Ship?

Kirk Cousins apparently suffered a torn right Achilles and this is going to be a massive story in fantasy leagues. The Vikings are 4-4 and facing a serious dilemma. They could look to the free agent or trade market for a quarterback to try to compete or attempt to right the ship with the likes of Jaren Hall, a rookie from BYU. If they don’t go for someone like Carson Wentz or Matt Ryan off the scrap heap and wave the white flag instead, it’s fair to wonder when we see Justin Jefferson again. Will they really risk him in a lost season?

Lamb is a Lion

CeeDee Lamb had been relatively quiet for most of the year but that changed in a big way on Sunday as he posted 12 catches for 158 yards and two touchdowns. There were some questions about Lamb’s status as a WR1 the rest of the season but those were answered emphatically on Sunday. It’s just one game but it also reminded us of just what he can accomplish.

Where there’s a Will, there’s a Way

I’ve been personally saying all week that Ryan Tannehill may have taken his last snap in Tennessee and that seems likely after Will Levis completed 19-of-29 passes for 238 yards and four touchdowns in a win against Atlanta. Considering the fact Tannehill has just two touchdown passes on the season and the realization DeAndre Hopkins (4/128/3) clearly still has some juice left in the tank with competent quarterback play, it’s hard to see Tannehill getting this job back.

What can Brown do for you?

A.J. Brown set the NFL record for consecutive games with at least 125 receiving yards with six and there just doesn't seem to be any end in sight. While there may be a few other receivers worth having over Brown, it's hard to find anyone at any position more consistent than he is at the moment. With the Eagles rolling again, it’s fair to wonder just when this streak may actually end.

Add it Up

Jordan Addison had another solid game with seven catches, 82 receiving yards, and a touchdown. Now with seven touchdown catches in just eight games, Addison is clearly one of the three best rookies in fantasy football, along with Puka Nacua and Bijan Robinson. The Cousins injury is significant but Addison clearly has star quality.

As always, there were injuries destined to affect fantasy leagues and this week was hard on quarterbacks.

Again, Kirk Cousins looks to have torn his right Achilles. If that’s the case, the Vikings are going to be a team in flux at 4-4. A free agent at the end of the season, this could be the end of the road for him in Minnesota.

Matthew Stafford was forced from the Rams blowout loss against Dallas with what’s being called a thumb injury. At 3-5, it seems unlikely Los Angeles will rush him back if this is remotely serious.

Another quarterback, Kenny Pickett of the Steelers, was forced from a game this week with what was deemed as a rib injury. Pickett hasn’t been great all season and has also looked like a player who is going to struggle to stay healthy. With the Steelers playing Tennessee on Thursday, it may be tough for him to make it back.

The Giants had to turn to Tommy DeVito after Tyrod Taylor left the game with a rib injury that reportedly put him in the hospital overnight. The Giants lost a brutal game to the Jets and it’s fair to wonder just what they do at the position moving forward.

Darren Waller (hamstring) and Drake London (groin) also left their games early. We’ll need to see the reports this week to see just how severe these ailments may be.

The Raiders and Lions battle tonight in what seems like a pretty important game for Las Vegas, who sit at 3-4. As always, there are questions to answer.

1.) Will Davante Adams still get his targets?

The Raiders seemed to make an effort to get Adams the ball last week but we need to see that continue moving forward to keep him on the WR1 line.

2.) Can Jahmyr Gibbs set the tone?

Most fantasy managers felt Gibbs was going to set the world on fire this year but David Montgomery has been a serious thorn in his side. With Montgomery out at least one more week, this is a massive opportunity for Gibbs to jump him as the RB1 in the Motor City. Can he cash in?
