🗞️ Monday Morning NFL Recap

Stairway to Evan

Together with GameBlazers: The Next Generation of Fantasy Sports

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter comes to your inbox seven days a week throughout the NFL season, and I bring you the Monday recap each and every week. For those of you who don’t know me, I helped create DynastyLeagueFootball back in 2006 and have been writing about fantasy football for nearly 20 years.

I truly love this time of year, so let’s get to it!

As always, some serious storylines developed in Week 14. Let’s take a look at some of the headlines you could easily see today as the fantasy world reacts.

Stairway to Evan

Evan Engram was having a pretty quiet year in the scoring department and didn’t have a single touchdown until last week. However, fantasy managers who thought that was the start of something big were rewarded as Engram posted 11 catches for 95 yards and two touchdowns in a loss against Cleveland this week. With a whopping 20 catches over the past two weeks, Engram is clearly climbing the ladder of must-start tight ends.

San Francisco Treat

The performance of Deebo Samuel this week was again unreal as he burned Seattle for seven catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. With nearly 100 fantasy points over the past three weeks, Samuel may just be THE player who decides league champions and those who were close but not close enough. It’s truly been a treat to watch Samuel the past month.

London Calling

Make no mistake, the Falcons offense has been dreadful from a fantasy perspective. However, Drake London is doing his best to salvage his season. This week, he caught 10 passes for 172 yards. While he didn’t score (outside of a two-point conversion), managers who need London can at least hope he can keep this up over the next few weeks if they need to call upon him.

Moss Out

When Jonathan Taylor went down with a thumb injury, Zack Moss looked poised to be a difference-maker in fantasy leagues. Unfortunately, he’s fallen flat and posted just 28 rushing yards, four catches, and 28 receiving yards this week. After flopping last week as well, Moss is going to be tough to keep in fantasy lineups as we hit some critical weeks.

Kupp of Coffee

It seems like Cooper Kupp has been a shell of himself all season but this week showed us he still has the ability to post some monster games. With eight catches, 115 yards, and a touchdown this week, Kupp looked like his old self. While he may disappear again, having him post this kind of a game at a crucial time was huge even if it was just for a week.

As always, there were injuries destined to affect fantasy leagues. After a quiet Week 13, fantasy managers were paid back this week with some serious injuries that will affect the outcomes of leagues all over the world.

The Chargers are having a mess of a season and it sounds like Justin Herbert has fractured his finger. It’s hard to see him coming back this year if the Chargers are out of the playoff race.

The Texans lost CJ Stroud to a likely concussion. We’ll have to see the early reports this week to see if he can come back.

Alexander Mattison suffered an ankle injury and had to leave the Vikings’ ugly game against Las Vegas. Ty Chandler would be an intriguing waiver target should Mattison miss time.

The Vikings again lost Justin Jefferson, this time to a chest injury that ended up resulting in a trip to the hospital. Stay tuned.

Nico Collins was in line for a huge workload this week but he left the Texans game early as well with a calf injury. This one doesn’t seem too serious but we’ll have to wait and see.

We get a rare doubleheader this week as the Packers take on the Giants and the Titans battle the Dolphins. As always, fantasy managers have questions to ask.

1.) What can Jordan Love do next?

After a month or so into the season, it seemed like Love was going to be a bust for Green Bay. Now, he looks like an absolute superstar after throwing for eight touchdown passes and no interceptions over his past three games.

2.) Just how hot is Tyreek Hill?

Pretty hot, really. As Hill continues his quest for a 2,000-yard season, many fantasy managers will be needing a big game to secure a win and a possible playoff spot. I wouldn’t bet against it.

3.) How will Miami use De’Von Achane and Raheem Mostert in the backfield?

Achane has been electric as a rookie but still being eased back into work following a knee injury. Meanwhile, Mostert has been one of the most productive fantasy running backs all season. What will this look like as we get to the pivotal weeks of the fantasy season?
