🗞️ Monday Morning NFL Recap

Let James Cook!

Together with GameBlazers: The Next Generation of Fantasy Sports

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter comes to your inbox seven days a week throughout the NFL season, and I bring you the Monday recap each and every week. For those of you who don’t know me, I helped create DynastyLeagueFootball back in 2006 and have been writing about fantasy football for nearly 20 years.

I truly love this time of year, so let’s get to it!

As always, some serious storylines developed in Week 15. Let’s take a look at some of the headlines you could easily see today as the fantasy world reacts.

Let James Cook!

James Cook was one of the most polarizing players this off-season. Many felt he could be a true RB1 in the Buffalo offense with Devin Singletary and Zack Moss out of the way. Through 12 weeks, Cook was relatively effective but far from dominant. However, he’s been on a big-time heater after the bye week with back-to-back monster performances. This week, he posted a whopping 179 rushing yards, two catches, 42 receiving yards, and two touchdowns as the Bills overwhelmed Dallas. Cook looks like THE player who is going to decide fantasy championships this season.

Air Jordan

The return of Justin Jefferson was supposed to make Jordan Addison a secondary option. As Lee Corso would say, “Not so fast, my friend.” Addison was awesome this weekend with six catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns. At this point, both Jefferson and Addison are must-plays through the end of the year as the rookie looks legit.

Waddle he do Next Week?

Tyreek Hill was a surprise inactive and that opened the door for Jaylen Waddle to possibly have a monster game. He did just that after posting eight catches for 142 yards and a touchdown against a stellar Jets defense. It should remind everyone just how talented Waddle is and if Hill is out again, Waddle is a must-start.

Oh, Henry!

The 29-year-old Derrick Henry posted one of the worst days of his career as he was only able to muster nine yards on 16 carries while “adding” four catches for one more yard. It was a huge disappointment after he had scored two touchdowns in each of the past three games. Henry himself said he’s questioning his future in Tennessee after the game. What will the Titans do with him now that they’ve been eliminated from postseason contention?

Not Hall of Fame

Breece Hall has a tremendous amount of talent and has been able to withstand the awful quarterback play of the Jets for most of the season. Unfortunately, that ended this week as Hall posted a miserable 12 rushing yards, one catch, and six receiving yards. He should bounce back but this one was a playoff killer for a lot of teams.

As always, there were injuries destined to affect fantasy leagues. This week was eerily quiet but there were two injuries worth noting.

Zach Wilson left the Jets game with a concussion and did not return. With New York now eliminated from the playoffs, it’s fair to wonder if he hasn’t played his last snap with the team.

Jayden Reed has been a revelation this year for the Packers. Unfortunately, he suffered a toe injury this week and it could keep him out of the lineup moving forward. This will clearly be a story to watch moving forward.

We get a good one this week as the Eagles travel to Seattle trying to keep up their hopes for the #1 seed in the NFC. There are two big-time questions we need answered.

1.) What do we make of Jalen Hurts and his illness?

Fantasy managers were put into a serious pickle this week as Hurts was moved to questionable Sunday morning as his sickness worsened overnight. Many managers picked up Marcus Mariota as an emergency option should Hurts not play. However, if Hurts can’t go, it’s going to sink a lot of fantasy teams. People everywhere are rooting for Theraflu!

2.) What will the Seattle run game do next?

The Seahawks have a quarterback issue of their own as Geno Smith may not be able to go. The bigger question may revolve around their backfield, however. With Kenneth Walker close to full strength, will he get the lion’s share of the carries back or will Zach Charbonnet make this a true running back committee moving forward?
