🗞️ Monday Morning NFL Recap

Houston, you have the solution

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter comes to your inbox seven days a week throughout the NFL season, and I bring you the Monday recap each and every week. For those of you who don’t know me, I helped create DynastyLeagueFootball back in 2006 and have been writing about fantasy football for nearly 20 years.

I truly love this time of year, so let’s get to it!

As always, there were some serious storylines that developed in Week 9. Let’s take a look at some of the headlines you could easily see today as the fantasy world reacts.

Houston, you have the solution

CJ Stroud went nuclear and set the rookie single-game passing record in the process as he completed 30-of-42 passes for 470 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions in a win against Tampa Bay. He now has 2,270 passing yards with 14 touchdowns and just one interception on the season. Stroud clearly has the "it" factor and this performance will undoubtedly move him into the weekly QB1 consideration. In addition, Texans rookie wide receiver Tank Dell had six catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner. Houston looks set and fantasy managers have two more solid options for their lineups with these two exciting rookies.

Giant Problem

Daniel Jones looks to be out again as the Giants fear he has a torn ACL. Anyone who watched the game and saw him fall to the ground after failing to put any kind of weight on his leg isn’t surprised. At 2-7, the Giants are in the middle of a lost season and Tyrod Taylor is already on IR. New York has just Tommy DeVito left in the quarterback room and if Jones is lost for the year, they have a real problem on their hands. Danny DeVito would probably have just as good a chance to succeed here.

Cheat Code Initiated

A couple of years ago, Taysom Hill was the source of massive controversy in fantasy leagues as he was listed as a tight end but playing quarterback, giving teams a massive advantage. Well, the Saints are using him in lots of ways again and the advantage he could give fantasy managers is coming back. Hill had 11 carries, four catches, caught a touchdown pass, and threw for another. He doesn’t fit the mold of any player and looks like a cheat code yet again.

Miles Away

Miles Sanders has lost his job and that seems apparent. Chuba Hubbard had 20 touches this week and Sanders had just nine. The tea leaves have been pointing to a change and this is a very disappointing development in fantasy leagues. After all, we’re only a couple of months removed from thinking Sanders was one of the true bellcow runners in fantasy leagues. Guess not.

You’re Grounded

The Ravens are playing old-school football and punishing opponents in the process. Baltimore out-rushed Seattle 298-28 this week and Gus Edwards had two more touchdowns in the process. While he isn’t seeing a ton of work, that makes six touchdowns in the past three weeks for Edwards and it certainly seems like he’s a realistic option again in fantasy leagues.

As always, there were injuries destined to affect fantasy leagues. Let’s review some of the notable ones.

Again, Daniel Jones is feared to have a torn ACL. If this is indeed the case, it’s going to be catastrophic for the Giants.

The Vikings have been hit especially hard by injuries and they had two more today as rookie quarterback Jaren Hall was lost just six passes into his first-ever start. They also lost Cam Akers and are hoping he didn’t tear his Achilles.

Dallas Goedert was lost to a forearm injury and was forced from the Eagles game against Dallas late in the fourth quarter. Any lost time for Goedert would be unfortunate as he had just started to perform better in fantasy leagues.

KJ Osborn had a nasty-looking concussion and is pretty fortunate his injury wasn’t even more complicated. Regardless, he took a hit that looks like it will force him to miss some time.

Christian Watson was beaten up in the Packers’ win and treated for chest, back, and head injuries. We’ll wait and see on this one.

The Chargers and Jets battle tonight in a game both teams really need to stay in the playoff hunt. As always, there are fantasy questions that need to be answered.

1.) Will Breece Hall keep his hot streak going?

The Jets running back has 60 touches in his last three games and has planted Dalvin Cook firmly on the bench. Can he keep this offense afloat nearly by himself?

2.) Will Austin Ekeler return to form?

We’re still waiting to see the dominant force we’ve come to love in Austin Ekeler. He’s been fine so far but only has two touchdowns on the season and hasn’t put up a truly vintage Ekeler performance. Can he do it against a stout Jets defense?
