The coaching chopping block is in full swing ahead of the NFL playoffs as teams begin to prepare for 2026. Here’s what’s gone down so far in NFL coach firings:

  • Is David Montgomery done in Detroit?

Monty is still under contract with the Lions after signing a two-year extension worth $18.25 million in October of 2024. However, Detroit could cut him with a post-June 1 designation and save $6 million in 2026 cap space, along with $9 million in 2027 (via Over the Cap). The move would also take on dead caps of $2.4 million and $1.2 million in each year, respectively.
