We finally got our first taste of real NFL action for the 2024 season with the first preseason games kicking off last Thursday. Here are five fantasy-relevant takeaways from the first set of games.
Jayden Daniels is a company and perhaps franchise guy š·: The rookie showed up to his first NFL game in a throwback Doug Williams jersey, then played like the former great in limited action of just one series. Daniels completed 2-of-3 passes for 45 yards and scampered untouched for a three-yard rushing touchdown. This dual-threat QB is leaving draft boards as the QB12 in the early ninth round.
š§¢ Donāt write off Eric Gray as the RB2 for the Giants: Saquon Barkley is out and Devin Singletary is in as the starter in New York. All the backup hype has been on rookie Tyrone Tracy, but Gray showed heās not going away quietly. The sophomore carried the ball four times for 52 yards with an additional four catches for 46 yards, with two end zone trips on Thursday night. Tracy put up a 5-26-0 line and is currently RB54, while Grayās ADP is N/A.
Rookie Braelon Allen wants that RB2 job in New York š©ļø: With Breece Hall not playing along with almost all starters, the fourth-round pick showcased power and vision on his way to 54 yards on six carries. Allen makes for an exciting handcuff with upside heading into the season and is going for the bargain price of RB60.
The Packers WR room is deep š§ but Dontayvion Wicks picked up right where he left off: QB Jordan Love wasnāt in for long, but he tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Wicks on his third play. Wicks ended his rookie season hot, scoring four touchdowns in a three-game stretch, which included the NFC Wild Card game against Dallas. Green Bay has a plethora of WRs to pick from, and Wicks is currently the fourth one off draft boards in the 13th round.
š“āā ļø Not surprisingly, Brock Bowers was involved, and in several different ways: The first-round pick for Las Vegas had two catches for 25 yards in his first contest. Aside from tight end, the Raiders also lined him up at fullback in some experimental formations with fellow tight end Michael Mayer, plus he also spent time out wide and in the slot.
This preseason flashback may be nightmare-inducing for some so a trigger warning is in effect. On August 7th, 2008 Brett Favre holds up his New York Jets jersey after being traded from the Packers for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2009 NFL draft with performance escalation. This came after Favre retired on March 4th of that year, but then wanted back in and a subsequent release from the Packers after 15 years.
Favre was the QB25 in fantasy football that season with just 9.7 FP per contest.

Obligatory Brandon Aiyuk news: Wake me up when something actually happens, please. š“
#Steelers remain motivated on a Brandon Aiyuk deal, but trade talks with #49ers were quiet in recent days as S.F. decides whether to extend the WR at a price point he would accept.
As one source pointed out, the team is āone phone call awayā on deal, with parameters in place.

The Commanders signed Martavis Bryant - yes that one - to a one-year deal worth $1.1M. The 32-year-old hasnāt appeared in an NFL game since 2018, as he was suspended (for the second time) for violation of the leagueās drug policy indefinitely. Bryant was reinstated in November of 2023 and spent some time on the Cowboys practice squad. At 6ā4ā heās by far the tallest WR Washington has, so thereās that.
