Picks and a Prop

This is the final Friday edition of this newsletter for the 2023 NFL season. I’ll be sending out some pertinent NFL news and info throughout the playoffs once a week, followed by dynasty, free agency, NFL Draft, and more! We’ll ramp back up to multiple days a week once training camp hits and we can do this all over again!

Here’s a look at the top performers at each position from Weeks 15 & 16 - the guys who helped us all get to the sweet title game. I’m only including the top 5 to not make this newsletter ridiculously long.

Quarterback

Exactly who we all predicted heading into the season, right? Well, at least Jalen Hurts is where we thought he’d be.

Running Back

CMC is parked at No. 1 which should not be a surprise to anyone. The rest are up for interpretation. 😉

Wide Receiver

Too bad Amari Cooper’s insane fantasy playoff run had to come to an end before the finals due to a heel injury. George Pickens and Tee Higgins finally rewarded those who hung on or were able to snag them off the waiver wire in time.

Tight End

Like QB, just as we all imagined back in August. What a ride. 🤓

This week we get a pinch hit from Ryan Noonan, your Sunday newsletter MC. Here’s his best prop bet for Week 17.

D'Andre Swift Over 14.5 Rushing Attempts (-122, FanDuel)

This FanDuel number is a bit off-market, but I also like the more widely available 15.5 if you can't get this number on FanDuel.

Swift has maintained his role as the Eagles' primary ball carrier (not named Jalen Hurts), and a string of tightly contested and trailing game scripts have hurt some of his recent workloads. In this spot, as nearly two-touchdown favorites at home against the Cardinals, I think we see a heavy dose of Swift once again. He has 17 and 20 carries in his past two contests, and teams are running against the Cardinals at the league's highest rate (48.3%) over the past four weeks.

Swift rarely gets off to a quick start in terms of workload, but just last week, he handled 10 fourth-quarter carries on his way to 20 for the week. You might tilt this one a bit when he has a quiet first half, but this is a full-game bet.

Risk: 1.22 to win 1 on FanDuel

If you’re still alive in survivor pools, our friends at PoolGenius can help by using the “holy trinity” of analysis to make educated selections each week.

The Holy Trinity Explained:

  • Win odds (how likely a team is to win, especially compared to other options)

  • Pick popularity (the percentage of opponents you expect to pick that team)

  • Future value (how useful that team should be as a future week pick)

Let’s get to this week’s picks:

🦬 Buffalo Bills vs. Patriots - (Highest Win Odds)

  • Point Spread: -13.0

  • Win Odds: 87% (1st)

  • Pick Popularity: 9% (5th)

  • Future Value: 12th

⛏️ San Francisco 49ers @ Washington - (Tied for Highest Spread)

  • Point Spread: -13.0

  • Win Odds: 87% (T-1st)

  • Popularity: 4% (8th)

  • Future Value: 1st

🐆 Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Panthers - (Most Popular)

  • Point Spread: -6.5

  • Win Odds: 71% (6th)

  • Popularity: 17% (1st)

  • Future Value: 8th

🐏 LA Rams @ Giants - (Low Popularity w/ Decent Odds)

  • Point Spread: -5.5

  • Win Odds: 69% (8th)

  • Popularity: 7% (6th)

  • Future Value: 13th
