šŸ† Super Bowl Fun Facts

A prop and some dynasty, too

Happy Humpday, good people! This week is of course a Super Bowl episode of the Deep Dive Fantasy newsletter, filled with fun facts and other oddities. Thereā€™s also a dynasty segment and a prop bet for this weekā€™s game.

The final weekend of NFL football is here so we need to savor it all before we have to actually make plans and get out into the world on Sundays until the fall. I decided to look into some fun and interesting Super Bowl facts and trivia to get everyone in the mood for this final battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers.

1. What Team Has the Most Super Bowl Appearances?

šŸŽ–ļø The New England Patriots have appeared in a whopping 11 NFL title games. (1986, 1997, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019) Both the Steelers and Cowboys tie for the second-most times competing in the Super Bowl with eight.

2. Which Team has the Most Super Bowl Wins?

šŸ” The Steelers and šŸŽ–ļø Patriots are currently tied with six wins a piece. San Francisco is right behind them with five Lombardi Trophies, so they could join these two franchises with a victory on Sunday.

3. What Teams Have Never Played in a Super Bowl?

Four teams have yet to reach the big game much to the chagrin of their loyal fan bases.

  • šŸ¦ Detroit Lions

  • šŸ† Jacksonville Jaguars

  • šŸ¶ Cleveland Browns

  • šŸ‚ Houston Texans

4. What City Has Hosted the Most Super Bowls?

Itā€™s no surprise that sunny Miami has hosted the most Super Bowls throughout history with 11. New Orleans is right behind with 10, and with the next Super Bowl slotted for the Big Easy again, New Orleans will tie Miami after Super Bowl 59.

5. How Many Super Bowl Rematches Have Taken Place?

We love a rematch or revenge game and there were eight instances, now nine with this yearā€™s rematch of the 2019 championship. Prior rematches include:

  • šŸ¤  Dallas Cowboys vs. šŸ” Pittsburgh Steelers

  • šŸ¬ Miami Dolphins vs. šŸŖ– Washington

  • ā›ļø San Francisco 49ers vs. šŸÆ Cincinnati Bengals

  • šŸ¤  Dallas Cowboys vs. šŸ¦¬ Buffalo Bills

  • šŸŽ–ļø New England Patriots vs. šŸ§¢ New York Giants

  • šŸ¦… Philadelphia Eagles vs. šŸŽ–ļø New England Patriots

  • šŸŽ–ļø New England Patriots vs. šŸ LA Rams

6. Who Sang the Longest National Anthem?

Alicia Keyes belted out the anthem for two minutes and 36 seconds at the start of Super Bowl 47 which is the longest on record. On the flip side, Neil Diamond sang the shortest version at Super Bowl 21 which lasted just one minute and two seconds.

7. How Much Does the Lombardi Trophy Weigh?

The elusive Lombardi trophy is crafted each season by the famous jeweler Tiffany & Co. and is valued at $50,000. It weighs just seven pounds so is easily hoisted or tossed from boat to boat by a certain inebriated QB. šŸ†

8. Whatā€™s the Coldest Super Bowl on Record?

As mentioned above, the big game usually takes place in warmer climates, or at least in an indoor venue. Super Bowl IV took place at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans in 1970 where temperatures were a cool 39 degrees. The Chiefs beat the Vikings 23-7 in that chilly title game.

9. Whatā€™s the Highest Scoring Super Bowl Contest?

The ā›ļø 49ers andāš”ļøChargers combined for a whopping 75 total points in Super Bowl XXIX. Thanks to Steve Young and Jerry Rice, the Niners beat San Diego 49-26. (Also fun fact: I was there in person, way up in the second to last row of Joe Robbie Stadium)

10. Whatā€™s the Average Price of a ticket to the Last 5 Super Bowls?

Thanks to Wallethub I found this nice little graphic. Tickets on the resale market for Super Bowl 58 are currently averaging around $10,752!

11. Who Was the First Super Bowl Half-Time Singer?

Broadway star Carol Channing sang in 1970 during that frigid Super Bowl in Tulane Stadium. She wasnā€™t the main act though, as the Southern University marching band performed a Mardi Gras tribute first, followed by Channingā€™s rendition of ā€œWhen the Saints Go Marching Inā€.

12. Favorite Super Bowl Foods

Once again thanks to Wallethub we can get a nice clean graphic of what folks like to eat for the big game. Chips and dip is far and away the most popular food at any football gathering which is heightened come Super Bowl time. The rest of these items make perfect sense and can be found at most gatherings for the title game.

Here is 4for4ā€™s Connor Allen with a fun prop for Super Bowl 58.

Chiefs longest FG -115 at DK

Harrison Butker is having the best year of his career, drilling 94% of his field goals including hitting 100% of his kicks from 40 yards and on. He is 8-of-8 from 40-49 yards and 6-of-6 from 50+ yards. On the other side, Jake Moody has been, fine but struggled a bit in the playoffs. On the season Moody is hitting 84% of his kicks but has struggled especially from distance. He is just 5-of-9 on 40-49 yard kicks this year including two misses in the playoffs alone. This is only -105 because it is listed as a 3-way market whereas Caesars and FD have this around -130 because they have it listed as a 2-way market where if no FG happens it voids.

Welcome to DLF Roundup. Each week, Ryan McDowell brings you a quick look at some of the dynasty happenings taking place over at Dynasty League Football.

The first major event of ā€œdraft seasonā€ came and went last week as many of the top prospects met together in Mobile, Alabama for the annual Senior Bowl. South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler, New Hampshire running back Dylan Laube and Michigan wide receiver Roman Wilson were among the standouts for the week. Wilsonā€™s stock soared so much that he showed up in the first round of the initial mock draft from NFL.comā€™s Lance Zierlein.

DLFā€™s Ken Kelly shared his thoughts about Senior Bowl week in the latest version of his ā€œMy Dynasty Mindā€ series.

Hereā€™s what Ken had to say about Wilson and the other standout wide receivers from the weekā€¦

You may have heard of Christian McCaffrey and he has a little brother named Luke who played at Rice and is trying to make a name for himself, While not an elite-level athlete like his brother, Luke consistently made plays at practice all week and looks like a solid mid-round prospect.

The receiver who surprised people the most was likely Southeast Missouriā€™s Ryan Flournoy. He apparently flourished in 1v1 drills and was singled out as a really good blocker and hard worker as well. Rookie drafts are built on sleepers and Flournoy is certainly on the sleeper radar at this point.

The Senior Bowl had a lot of small school prospects but one of those was not Johnny Wilson of Florida State. The challenge with Wilson is pretty simple ā€“ heā€™s super raw. While you canā€™t coach 6-foot-6 and 237 pounds, Wilson also struggled with drops all week and that inconsistency really defined his college career. Still, the size and speed he brings to the table is going to make someone jump on him in the late part of the draft and he could be a steal in a dynasty rookie draft should he ever put it all together.

By most accounts, the trio of Ladd McConkey, Malachi Corley and Roman Wilson were the best three receivers at the event and peopleā€™s minds didnā€™t change much after the week. However, none of these three really stood out and moved up draft boards significantly ā€“ they more or less cemented what they were in most peopleā€™s minds.

Stick with DLF for the next few weeks and months and weā€™ll continue to churn out rookie content to help you crush your dynasty drafts.
