🥇 Super Bowl Record Breakers

NFL Calendar and a Dynasty Bargain

It’s officially off-season time in both real life and fantasy football, but I’ll keep rolling with this newsletter every Wednesday until it picks up again and then add some more days. In today’s version, I go over some record-setting Super Bowl facts and the NFL offseason schedule, plus we’ll hear from Ryan McDowell at DLF on some pertinent dynasty info.

The Super Bowl provided plenty of excitement whether it was from a betting perspective, the game coming down to overtime, or even the ancillary stuff like commercials or half-time show. There were a myriad of records broken during Super Bowl 58, so here’s a look at how history was made.

🦵🏼Kicking Records

  • KC leg Harrison Butker set the all-time career Super Bowl record with nine total field goals (4 appearances).

  • SF kicker Jake Moody broke the longest field goal record in a Super Bowl early in the game at 56 yards, only to have Butker crush a 57-yarder later to take the record from him

  • Moody became the first Super Bowl kicker to put two 50+ yard field goals through the uprights in the same Super Bowl.

🏈 Patrick Mahomes Records

  • The KC signal caller now has the most QB rushing yards in Super Bowl history under his belt along with his third MVP in the big game. Mahomes has rushed for 139 total yards in four Super Bowls, passing Joe Montana (105), with John Elway in third (86), and Roger Staubach in fourth with 83 ground yards.

  • Mahomes also now holds the record for fumble recoveries in a Super Bowl with four.

🎲 Vegas Records

  • Super Bowl 58 was the historic first one held in Nevada and likely won’t be the last after the success of the event across the board.

  • Sportsbooks in Nevada took $185.6 million in bets, breaking the state record for Super Bowl wagering. This broke the previous high mark of $179.8 million from 2022, according to figures released by the Gaming Control Board.

📺 Viewing Records

  • More viewers watched Super Bowl 58 than any other event in US History according to Nielsen and Adobe Analytics, with 123.4 million people tuned in to see the Chiefs rally to defeat the 49ers in overtime.

  • CBS Sports indicated that viewership was up 7% from last year’s 115.1 million. The game was televised by CBS, Nickelodeon, and Univision, along with streaming on Paramount+ as well as the NFL's digital platforms.

Welcome to DLF Roundup. Each week, Ryan McDowell brings you a quick look at some of the dynasty happenings taking place over at Dynasty League Football.

In case you’ve missed it, Dynasty League Football’s Kevin White has been churning out some amazing content lately. He just began a new series digging deeper into some advanced metrics in an effort to find some dynasty bargains. Kevin began his series by analyzing some of the top quarterbacks in the league.

I thought the section discussing Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was especially interesting……overall.

  • Fantasy Points Per Game: QB4

  • Team Pass Plays Per Game: QB7

  • Passing Yards: QB3

  • Money Throws: QB1

  • Danger Plays: QB22

  • Passing Touchdowns: QB1

  • Deep Ball Completion %: QB4

  • Pressured Completion %: QB1

  • Rush Yards Per Game: QB28

Recency bias often provides an opportunity to win big in your dynasty leagues. Many will focus on the Cowboys’ embarrassing playoff loss to the Packers when making judgment on Prescott’s 2023 season. Reflecting back with an open mind, he was impressive, finishing as the QB4 in fantasy points per game, considering the Cowboys were seventh in team pass plays per game and Prescott was QB28 in rush yards per game. From a passing perspective he was outstanding, finishing as the QB1 in money throws, passing touchdowns and pressured completion percentage. Add in the passing yardage output and deep ball efficiency was excellent. The cherry on top is that despite the significant passing volume and output, Prescott was only QB22 in danger plays, showing incredible effectiveness as a passer.

With superstar wide receiver CeeDee Lamb locked in as his number-one target and leading an offense including promising tight end Jake Ferguson, Prescott is a player to be interested in. The market is all over the place on him, here at DLF he is valued at QB8, whereas the market at Keep Trade Cut values him as the QB13. Acquiring at the latter cost is highly appealing, where you can make easy pivots down to Prescott from higher-valued younger assets who will struggle to deliver Prescott’s fantasy output over the next few years.

Prescott is valued almost identically to Tua Tagovailoa, an easy pivot for contenders in dynasty to add points to their lineup (Credit: DLF Trade Analyzer).
