Injury Roundup, Training Camp Nostalgia and Lots of Ink
Welcome to the Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter, a now twice-weekly fantasy football publication coming to your inbox all summer long.
With training camps finally underway, I figured I’d fill you all in on the fantasy-relevant injuries and injury-related transactions that occurred since the last newsletter. I’ll go team by team so it’s easily digestable.
🪺Baltimore Ravens
WR Rashod Bateman was reinstated and activated from the reserve/did not report list Sunday, after being placed on the list on Friday, the 21st. The Baltimore WR was then placed on the PUP list on Monday afternoon. 😵💫
🦬 Buffalo Bills
RB Nyheim Hines suffered a significant knee injury courtesy of a jet ski incident and is expected to miss the entire 2023 football season.
🐻 Chicago Bears
WR Chase Claypool was placed on the active/PUP list.
🐶 Cleveland Browns
WR Amari Cooper left practice with a ‘minor tweak’ and is considered day-to-day.
🐴 Denver Broncos
RB Javonte Williams will not start training camp on the PUP list which is a solid sign for a Week 1 start.
WR Kendall Hinton was placed on the PUP list.
WR K.J. Hamler was placed on the non-football injury list.
🦁Detroit Lions
WR Marvin Jones was placed on the non-football injury list.
↠ Kansas City Chiefs
WR Kadarius Toney “tweaked his knee” during punt drills in Sunday’s practice.
🏴☠️ Las Vegas Raiders
QB Jimmy Garoppolo should have ‘no restrictions’ to start the Raiders’ training camp.
🛩️ New York Jets
TE C.J. Uzomah (leg) was placed on the active/PUP list.
Before spending 10 years in Pittsburgh and going on to post 13,662 rushing yards and 91 touchdowns as the NFL’s eighth-all-time leading rusher, Jerome Bettis was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 1993. Bettis was the 10th overall selection out of Notre Dame and spent three years as Ram before the Steelers traded their second-round pick in the 1996 NFL Draft and a fourth-round pick in the 1997 NFL Draft to the St. Louis Rams for Bettis and the Rams’ third-round pick in 1996.
We all know what happened next, as Bettis then posted six consecutive 1,000+ yard seasons and was able to retire on top after Pittsburgh won the Super Bowl in his final year in the league after the 2005 season. Bettis was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2015.
Here’s a flashback to The Bus’ very first training camp as a Ram back in 1993.

The Giants and Saquon Barkley finally agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth up to $11M early Tuesday. It may not be the exact outcome the Giants RB wanted, but fantasy managers around the globe can breathe a collective sigh of relief.
Surprise! 🚨 🚨 🚨
The #Giants and star RB Saquon Barkley agreed to terms on a new 1-year deal worth up to $11M, sources say, as Barkley gives himself a chance to beat the franchise tag. He gets a $2M signing bonus.
Bottom line: Barkley is coming in & will be at training camp. http

Raiders’ RB Josh Jacobs was spotted leaving the Las Vegas area via airplane on Monday morning which does not bode well for an upcoming training camp appearance. For now, Jacobs is leaving Yahoo draft boards in the second round, but as he holds out his ADP should begin to slide. Zamir White and Ameer Abdullah will be the beneficiaries if Jacobs fails to report.
#Raiders RB Josh Jacobs, who hasn’t signed his franchise tender, was spotted this morning boarding a flight leaving Las Vegas.
Jacobs won’t report for training camp Tuesday and has told people close to him that he doesn’t plan to return anytime soon.
