🔥Tuesday Morning Fantasy Football Recap
Many Questions Remain After The First Week of Fantasy Football in 2025
Our seven-month collective nightmare is over, ladies and gentlemen! Fantasy football is officially back, and the first weekend of the season has come and gone. Plenty of fantasy options smashed in their first game, but others must have thought it was still summer vacation.
The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inbox every Tuesday morning this season, and I will bring you the highlights, waiver wire thoughts, streaming options, and injury reports, all right here in one place.

Waiver Wire Additions for Week 2
After dismantling the Miami Dolphins for seven scores in seven drives, Daniel Jones needs to be added for the dual threat he can offer with his legs and his arm. He may have seen the worst defense he will face all year, but it was an encouraging sign that Daniel Jones got two goal-line carries for scores. He has all his main pass-catching weapons healthy, and rookie tight end Tyler Warren looks like a star in the making already. Jones is only 6% rostered in Yahoo leagues in advance of waivers on Tuesday night.
It is now clear that the Cleveland Browns do not want Jerome Ford to be their primary running back, and that’s why they drafted Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson. Both are working picking up this week. Sampson outplayed and outsnapped Ford on Sunday, and Judkins has signed a guaranteed contract after his legal troubles this offseason and could play in Week 2. Sampson touched the ball 20 times on Sunday and would be the running back to roster until Judkins is up to playing condition.

There might be no more popular player on waivers this week than Hollywood Brown of the Kansas City Chiefs. After Xavier Worthy left the Brazil game on Friday with a separated shoulder, Brown saw 16 targets, turning those into 10 catches for 99 yards. Interestingly, Travis Kelce only saw four targets (although he caught a touchdown), so it was Brown who immediately demanded Patrick Mahomes’ attention in the offense. He is only 25% rostered in Yahoo fantasy leagues.
While it’s a bad matchup against Baltimore, Harold Fannin of the Cleveland Browns (yes, more Browns, I don’t feel great about it either) is clearly part of this team’s passing attack. Joe Flacco was second in the league with 45 pass attempts in Week 1 and was fifth with 290 passing yards. Nine of those attempts and 63 of those yards went to rookie tight end Harold Fannin, who saw more looks and receptions than David Njoku. The Browns were raving all camp about how much they liked Fannin’s receiving profile, and we should have been paying attention. He led all of FBS with 117 receptions and 1,555 yards in 2024.

Who to Stream in Week 2
The player with the most passing yards in Week 1 was Geno Smith, with 362 yards and a passing touchdown. While most thought the Las Vegas Raiders offense would be a rushing attack, the Raiders asked Smith to attempt 34 passes, and he completed 70% of them with a strong 10.6 yards per attempt (only Lamar Jackson was higher in Week 1). Smith gets to travel home to play the Los Angeles Chargers, who just returned from their trip to Brazil and now go back out on the road. With the trio of Brock Bowers, Ashton Jeanty, and Jakobi Meyers at his disposal, Smith is going to make for a strong streaming option in Week 2.

The Cincinnati Bengals just allowed Joe Flacco to throw for 290 yards and a touchdown, and now they host Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Lawrence wasn’t great against Carolina, but that game had an hour-long lightning delay, and Travis Etienne was gashing the Panthers on the ground. Lawrence is available in about 50% of Yahoo leagues if you need a potential Brock Purdy replacement.
Doubling down on the Jaguars this week, you might get a sneaky good game from tight end Brenton Strange against Cincinnati. The Bengals just allowed 10 catches for 100 yards to Cleveland Browns tight ends on Sunday, and coverage of the middle of the field is their Achilles heel. Strange caught all four of his targets on Sunday for 59 yards and a 14.8 yards per reception average.
If Brock Bowers is out with injury (more on that below), Michael Mayer would be a must-add and stream against the Los Angeles Chargers. Bowers was over 100 yards receiving in his first game on eight targets, and the Chargers just gave up 47 yards and a touchdown to Travis Kelce in Week 1.

Fantasy Football Injuries to Monitor
Drake London suffered what is being called a shoulder strain and is currently day-to-day as we inch into Week 2. London had an insane 15 targets before he exited late on Sunday, so it’s clear Michael Penix Jr. is still looking his way almost every play. London should be able to play next week, but monitor this through the next five days.
George Kittle left the game against Seattle with a hamstring injury and didn’t play in the second half. A report came back after Monday’s MRI that he will miss 3-5 weeks with a hamstring strain. This is a devastating blow for an offensive unit that was devastated by injuries during the preseason, and unfortunately, the casualties don’t end with Kittle for the San Francisco 49ers.
Kittle’s teammate Jauan Jennings also left this game with a shoulder injury and did not return. He tried to catch passes on the sideline, but the pain would not let him continue. The reports from Monday are that Jennings’ MRI came back clean, but he is having a CT scan to be sure nothing was missed. More information on Jennings should be available later in the week. After the game, the 49ers signed Kendrick Bourne to a one-year deal for insurance in their wide receiver room.
Brock Purdy has a left shoulder and toe injury that make him uncertain for Sunday’s game in New Orleans. Kyle Shanahan said the team will see how the practice week goes.

And if that wasn’t enough, a new report surfaced on Monday that 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is suffering from a toe and a left shoulder problem, and is uncertain for Week 2 at this point. Unlike Kittle and Jennings, Purdy did not miss any of Sunday’s game, and it remains to be seen if he gets in any practice time ahead of Week 2.
Brock Bowers left the game against the New England Patriots with what the team called a knee injury, but reports are that it is not serious. Bowers was apparently lobbying to come back into the game, but the coaching staff overruled him as a precaution. He will get tests early in the week to make sure there is nothing wrong with the MCL or the bone, and we should have more news regarding his status on Wednesday at the latest.
Evan Engram went to the medical tent multiple times in the game against the Tennessee Titans. It turns out he was dealing with some kind of calf injury all game and was in and out of the matchup several times. No news was provided after the game, so this is another wait-and-see situation as to whether or not Engram will need to be replaced in lineups for Week 2.
