🔥Tuesday Morning Fantasy Football Recap
Week 5 Was Defined by Explosive Offenses and More Season-Defining Injuries
Offenses were back in full force for Week 5 of fantasy football. Ten teams scored at least 27 points this past week, leading to some massive fantasy production across the board. In fact, only six teams scored fewer than 20 points this week. If you were relying on players from the Raiders, Browns, Chargers, Giants, Eagles, and Ravens this week, my condolences. With those high scores came some unexpected players putting up big numbers and, unfortunately, another set of injuries to look at moving forward.
The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inbox every Tuesday morning this season, and I will bring you the highlights, waiver wire thoughts, streaming options, and injury reports, all right here in one place.

Waiver Wire Additions for Week 6
Sam Darnold is somehow only rostered in around 40% on many fantasy football platforms heading into Week 6. That will surely rise after 341 yards and four touchdowns against Tampa Bay on Sunday. Since a Week 1 stinker, Darnold has nine touchdowns to three interceptions, and has crossed more than 295 yards passing twice. Klint Kubiak has this offense humming right now with so many elite pass-catchers.

Michael Carter was the running back on 58% of Arizona’s plays in Week 5, and he handled five targets to zero for Emari Demercado. After the Demercardo bonehead play where he dropped a touchdown last week, Carter might get more of the work since he put up 73 total yards and a touchdown.
Kendre Miller may be starting to assume a larger role on the New Orleans Saints, a team that is clearly going nowhere this year and has a 30-year-old running back as the starter. For the fifth straight week, running back Miller saw his snap rate go up (39% in Week 5), and Alvin Kamara played a season-low 56%. Miller now has three straight weeks with at least nine touches and rushed for 65 yards and a touchdown in Week 4, while adding another 50 yards in Week 5.
Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins are the last two running backs standing for the Los Angeles Chargers after the Najee Harris injury and the Omarion Hampton ankle injury, which has placed him on IR. Haskins had six touches and Vidal had five touches after Hampton left the game, so this might be a split backfield moving forward. If you’re desperate for a running back, one of them could have a big game against a weak Dolphins defense in Week 6.
Kendrick Bourne is an intriguing target after his huge game on Thursday Night Football, but it’s all dependent on the health of the other San Francisco receivers. He put up a 10-catch, 142-yard performance against the Rams last Thursday, while serving as the 49ers’ No. 1 receiver. Demarcus Robinson was thought to be the primary weapon, but Mac Jones lasered in on Bourne. That could happen again this week.
Mason Taylor earned 12 targets and caught nine passes against the Dallas Cowboys last week. He has graduated to must-start status considering his target share and weekly production and usage, which have been increasing for three straight games. This is a very narrow passing tree in New York, and it appears that Garrett Wilson and Mason Taylor are the two main branches.

Who to Stream in Week 6
Mac Jones will once again be firmly in play if Brock Purdy can not go on Sunday as he deals with turf toe. Jones has at least 279 yards passing and one touchdown in each of his three starts this season, and now faces the Seattle Seahawks, who are coming off a shootout with Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Bryce Young is the latest winner of the “You Get to Face the Dallas Cowboys” lottery for fantasy football. Even if it’s in garbage time, like with Justin Fields in Week 5, the Cowboys are giving up massive amounts of fantasy points to the quarterback position. Dallas allows 27.2 fantasy points per game to the position, which is almost three more points than any other team.

Theo Johnson was one of three tight ends to score two touchdowns in Week 5. After three total touchdowns in two games with Jaxson Dart, Johnson may be graduating from the streaming ranks to a weekly starter. The Giants have a tough task against the Eagles on Thursday night, but Johnson has 12 targets in two games with Dart as the starter.
Jake Tonges had another big game in place of George Kittle on Thursday night, and could once again be the beneficiary of the massive amount of injuries to the San Francisco offensive skill positions. With four touchdowns already allowed to the tight end position, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the second-highest number in the league.

Fantasy Football Injuries to Monitor
Omarion Hampton suffered some kind of ankle injury against the Washington Commanders in Week 5 and left the stadium in a walking boot. On Monday, he was placed on IR and will miss at least four weeks. It’s a devastating blow for a team that is already without Najee Harris as well. As mentioned above, Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins are the next players up for a good matchup against Miami.
The first game in the post-Malik Nabers era could not have gone worse for Darius Slayton. He dropped a sure touchdown from Jaxson Dart, he fumbled at the end of the first half when the Giants were driving, and then he suffered a hamstring injury in the second half, forcing him to leave the game. Slayton will be reevaluated this week to determine if he must miss any time.
Kyler Murray the 1st QB to nearly die from the snap

Kyler Murray had a humiliating game on Sunday, getting hit in the head by a snap and then watching his team fumble away a win that looked to be secure in the fourth quarter. Murray also left for part of the game with a foot injury, although he was able to return. If there are any lingering issues, we should see them pop up on the Wednesday injury report.
Xavier Worthy played a full game on Monday Night Football, but he was a late add to the injury report for an ankle issue and did come out of the game for a couple of plays. Apparently, after flying to Jacksonville, his ankle was swollen (all of us old folks can relate), so the Chiefs listed him as Questionable. It’s worth monitoring this week to make sure Worthy came out of the game unscathed and there are no issues moving forward.
