🔥Tuesday Morning Fantasy Football Recap
Week 8 Was Blowout Week, Backups Week, and Byemageddon all Rolled Into One
The dreaded Byemagadden for Week 8 of the 2025 season is almost over. Did your fantasy football teams survive? Did you have Sean Tucker and Kyle Monangai as your starting running backs in any leagues? Just me? Probably not. Now that this weird week of byes, blowouts, and backups is over, we can turn our attention to how to prepare for Week 9 of the fantasy football season.
The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inbox every Tuesday morning this season, and I will bring you the highlights, waiver wire thoughts, streaming options, and injury reports, all right here in one place.

Waiver Wire Additions for Week 9
Don’t worry about Sam Darnold and his performance against the Houston Texans in Week 7. They are one of the worst matchups for quarterbacks this season. Darnold has finished as a top-10 quarterback in three of the first six weeks and now gets the Washington Commanders, who are suffering from defensive injuries and just gave up four touchdowns to Kansas City. Having a superstar like Jaxon Smith-Njigba doesn’t hurt either.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. is the nominal starter now for the New York Giants after the injury Cam Skattebo suffered in Week 8 (more on that below). Tracy had over 1,100 total yards as a starter in 2024, and could have a three-down role depending on how New York deploys Devin Singletary.
Cam Skattebo was injured after one snap on the third drive in Week 8.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. was the clear-cut RB1 after that play:
64% snaps
56% attempts
55% routes
16% targetsDevin Singletary only played 19% of snaps with 13% of attempts.
Tracy is a priority waiver wire target.

Dylan Sampson is a speculative add for Week 10, depending on the severity of Quinshon Judkins’ injury. When Judkins went down on Sunday, it was Sampson, and not Jerome Ford, who played the majority of the snaps. It appears Cleveland prefers Ford in just the passing game, which would open a lot of work for Sampson.
Troy Franklin connected with Bo Nix, his teammate from the University of Oregon, for 89 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. Yes, this was against the horrific Dallas Cowboys defense, but he has 18 targets over his last two games and has three touchdowns. He is rostered in under 40% in many fantasy league platforms.
Kayshon Boutte now has four touchdowns in his last three games and is becoming a favorite target of the sudden MVP candidate Drake Maye. His roster percentage is going to shoot up after this week and another long touchdown, but his usage certainly warrants it.
Juwan Johnson had a marvelous stretch to start the season, followed by several games where it seemed like the Saints forgot how to throw the ball to him. But he now has 10 catches and 132 yards in his last two games, and Rashid Shaheed is coming out of Week 8 injured. I can’t say that Tyler Shough is going to be the most accurate passer, but he should keep Johnson plenty involved.

Who to Stream in Week 8
Trevor Lawrence has been wildly inconsistent for much of the 2025 season, but in the last two games, he has stabilized the ship and been a productive fantasy option. In those two games, he has over 525 yards passing, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, while adding another 27 yards on the ground. In Week 9, he faces off against the hapless Las Vegas Raiders, who were blown out 31-0 the last time they took the field.
Aaron Rodgers has turned back the clock in his three weeks since the Pittsburgh bye week. He has at least 200 yards and two touchdowns in each of those three games. In Week 9, he is going to have to help the Steelers put up points as they welcome the Indianapolis Colts, who have the best offense in football. They can be beaten through the air, so expect Rodgers to be chucking it in this game.
wait so at 41 years old, Aaron Rodgers now has the LONGEST THROW IN THE NFL (69.8 air yards) since at least 2017??
insane!!!
that distance at his age is ridiculous

Noah Fant is not going to blow anyone away, but with Joe Flacco at quarterback, he has at least been servicable for the Bengals. He has 10 receptions in his last three games, and back-to-back games with at least 40 yards. The Bears have been hemorraghing fantasy points to opposing offenses, and Joe Flacco throwing 40+ times per game puts this whole Cincinnati offense in play.
Colston Loveland will likely be looking at a role without Cole Kmet (back injury) again in Week 9 and will get to face the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals have allowed the most fantasy points per game to the tight end position and have somehow given up 10 touchdowns to them in eight games.
Fantasy Football Injuries to Monitor
Cam Skattebo suffered a horrific dislocated right ankle on Sunday afternoon against Philadelphia and already had surgery on Sunday night to try to minimize the damage and infection. He was on his way to another big game (plus a massive rookie season), so this is a devastating blow to Skattebo and the New York Giants. Tyrone Tracy now likely takes the starting role back beginning in Week 9.
Quinshon Judkins suffered a shoulder injury after 12 touches against the New England Patriots in Week 8. He did not return, and perhaps some of that has to do with the fact that the Browns were getting blown out. Cleveland has a bye week in Week 9, so Judkins has two weeks to heal, but we might not hear definitive news on the injury for some time.
Saquon Barkley broke out in a big way with 174 total yards and two touchdowns on Sunday. But he left late in the third quarter with a groin injury and did not return to the game. Barkley seemed to indicate that if the score was ever in doubt, he could have returned. Like the Browns, the Eagles also will have next week off, hopefully increasing the chances that Barkley plays in their next game.
It looks like Saquon Barkley's day is done. He's still testing his right leg/foot on the sideline and doesn't even have his helmet with him.
Heck of a day, though:

Drake London was added to the injury report with a hip injury on Saturday and did not play in Week 8. Officially, he was listed on Saturday, but reports surfaced that he was initially listed on the injury report on Friday and then removed. His and Michel Penix’s absence caused the Falcons’ offense to go into the toilet, so fantasy managers will need to watch reports this week to see his updated status.
Luther Burden III only caught one pass for negative one yard before leaving the game against Baltimore with a concussion. He did not return and will now need to pass the protocol this week to be able to suit up in Week 9.
Marvin Mims had one target and no receptions, but managed to end up with a concussion in the game against the Dallas Cowboys anyway. He will also need to pass through protocol to be able to play against Houston in Week 9, but he will be a hard player to trust after being shut out in Week 8.
