🔥Tuesday Morning Fantasy Football Recap

Week 3 Was the Week of Injuries and Backup Quarterbacks

Week 3 was a wild one in the fantasy football universe. It was a week where Marcus Mariota, Tyrod Taylor, and Carson Wentz outscored Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, and Jordan Love. It was a week where Cam Skattebo, Jeremy McNichols, and Quinshon Judkins outscored Bijan Robinson, Bucky Irving, and Derrick Henry. Unfortunately, it was also a week where we saw many more stars go down with injuries, some of which were season-ending.

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inbox every Tuesday morning this season, and I will bring you the highlights, waiver wire thoughts, streaming options, and injury reports, all right here in one place.

Waiver Wire Additions for Week 4

Geno Smith was phenomenal despite his team getting blown out by the Washington Commanders on Sunday. He threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns without committing a turnover, and now has the Chicago Bears up next. The Bears have allowed the most passing touchdowns to quarterbacks this season (eight) and give up the fourth-most fantasy points to the position overall.

Trey Benson is the number one waiver wire addition this week if he is available in your league. This is an empty-the-wallet situation because Benson could become a workhorse back after the season-ending injury to James Conner. Benson is only available in about 50% of leagues throughout the industry, so check your waiver wire, especially if you are in a more casual 10 or 12-team league.

Kyren Williams had another big game on Sunday with more than 110 total yards on 22 touches plus a touchdown. However, Blake Corum splayed at least 24% of his snaps for a second straight week and keeps eating into the Los Angeles Rams’ workload. Right now, it still appears Williams has the majority role, but Corum is now eating into his playing time, which is something to monitor. Corum’s eight touches and 53 yards were a season-high in Week 3.

Tre Tucker now has four touchdowns on the season after a massive game where he put up 145 yards and three scores against Washington. He obviously won’t deliver that every week, but he is playing more than 90% of snaps every week and is clearly a top-three option in this offense. With both Ashton Jeanty and Brock Bowers struggling, Tucker’s value is on the rise.

Isaiah Likely is rostered in fewer than 20% of Yahoo fantasy football leagues and is likely to be coming back in Week 4. The Ravens have plenty of playmakers on the team, but I do believe they might start prioritizing Likely over players like Devontez Walker and DeAndre Hopkins. With the Ravens’ defense struggling, Baltimore will have their best playmakers on the field on offense as often as they can.

Who to Stream in Week 4

Tua Tagovailoa (QB, MIA) faces the New York Jets in Week 4, who allow the eighth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season, and have yet to record an interception. Even with all of the team’s flaws, Tagovailoa has shown he can still deliver in the passing game when needed. He has some back-breaking turnovers, but also has two passing touchdowns in each of the last two games.

Carson Wentz (QB, MIN) showed on Sunday that he can still sling it, as he posted 173 passing yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers. He wasn’t needed as much as initially thought in this game because the Minnesota defense scored twice, and it turned into a blowout early. In Week 4, Wentz will start again, this time against the Pittsburgh Steelers and their struggling defense. Pittsburgh has allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks through three weeks.

Cole Kmet (TE, CHI) may be in line for more work in this ascending Chicago Bears offense if Colston Loveland misses Week 4 with a hip injury he suffered against Dallas. Kmet was targeted in the end zone on Sunday and caught one of the Bears’ four touchdowns, and could see more targets this week.

Mason Taylor (TE, NYJ) gets to match up against the Miami Dolphins this week, in a very good opportunity for tight ends. The Dolphins have allowed the third-most receiving yards (214) and third-most touchdowns (two) to the position through three weeks. Taylor is available in over 90% of fantasy leagues in all sites, and is a nice one-week replacement if your starter is injured or in a tough matchup (like Juwan Johnson or Hunter Henry, for example).

Fantasy Football Injuries to Monitor

James Conner suffered what has been confirmed to be a season-ending ankle injury during a short run in the second half of the Arizona Cardinals’ game against the San Francisco 49ers. Adam Schefter confirmed the diagnosis on Sunday night, and it appears surgery is in his future. Trey Benson will take over for Conner and become a very attractive RB2 option moving forward, especially considering the workload he is about to assume.

Similarly, Najee Harris suffered a torn Achilles on Sunday and will miss the rest of the 2025 season. There will surely be questions about whether or not the Chargers rushed him back after his July 4th eve injury, but for now, the takeaway is that Omarion Hampton is about to become a workhorse running back.

CeeDee Lamb left Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears with an ankle injury. He was eventually ruled out before scoring any fantasy points, and now reports are indicating he will miss 2-4 weeks with a high ankle sprain, including the massively hyped showdown with the Green Bay Packers. KaVontae Turpin and Jalen Tolbert will have to step up in his absence, but the real beneficiaries are Jake Ferguson and George Pickens.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. departed Sunday Night Football with a shoulder injury and did not return. That paved the way for rookie Cam Skattebo to be the one bright spot in the game for the New York Giants, as he led them in rush attempts, rushing yards, targets, receptions, and receiving yards. Tracy was already conceding work to Skattebo, and now that it has been confirmed as a dislocated shoulder, his time as the starter might be over.

Mike Evans is the latest Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver to go down with an injury. After catching a touchdown earlier in the game, Evans was forced to leave the game with a hamstring injury and did not look happy when the team took him into the locker room in the fourth quarter of a close game with the New York Jets. With the Buccaneers already missing Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan, this would become the Emeka Egbuka show if Evans had to miss time. Sterling Shepherd would also be an interesting addition.

Terry McLaurin caught three passes for 74 yards on Sunday, and his last one was a 56-yard catch where he was tackled just shy of the end zone. After that catch, McLaurin exited with a quadriceps injury. He didn’t appear to be too hurt in the game, so hopefully this is a situation where he was held out because of the score of the game, and it is not a long-term issue, especially with Jayden Daniels expected back soon.

Colston Loveland departed with a hip injury on Sunday, which paved the way for Cole Kmet to get more work against the Dallas Cowboys. This is an injury that will have to be monitored throughout the week, and we will have to see to what extent Loveland practices with the team.

Jayden Daniels could be back in Week 4 after missing one week with a knee injury. However, with how well Marcus Mariota played and how careful the team wants to be with the face of their franchise, I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave him one more week to rest and recover. The Commanders visit the Falcons on Sunday, so there is also a little revenge game narrative with Mariota if they give him one more start.
