🔥Tuesday Morning Fantasy Football Recap

Many Offenses Explode in Week 2 of the 2025 NFL Season

After many of the most highly drafted fantasy football options disappointed last week, Week 2 of the NFL season was an offensive explosion. Sunday was the eighth-highest scoring day ever in the history of the NFL, which means many of our fantasy football rosters put up scores that looked wildly different than the kickoff week.

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter will hit your inbox every Tuesday morning this season, and I will bring you the highlights, waiver wire thoughts, streaming options, and injury reports, all right here in one place.

Waiver Wire Additions for Week 2

There was not enough trust in the Week 1 performance for Daniel Jones, so he remained on waivers in a majority of fantasy football leagues. Against one of the toughest defenses in the league, Jones threw for 316 yards and a touchdown, while adding another rushing touchdown to his ledger. Jones is apparently the right fit for Shane Steichen’s system, and he is, at worst, splitting goal-line carries with Jonathan Taylor. He should start for fantasy rosters going forward.

Cam Skattebo might be the new number one running back for the New York Giants. After Tyrone Tracy Jr had some not-so-flattering things to say about the New York Giants’ offense after Week 1, the team made a change. Tracy dropped from 74% of snaps to 42%. Cam Skattebo spiked from just 12% and went all the way up to 52% in Week 2. Skattebo might be the favorite moving forward and is a priority waiver add this week after touching the ball 13 times and scoring a touchdown.

Bhayshul Tuten has a much clearer path to touches in Jacksonville with Tank Bigsby out of the way. Even while he only played 25% of the snaps on Sunday, Tuten touched the ball 10 times, piled up 74 yards, and scored a receiving touchdown. He might be on the short end of a 65/35 running back split with Travis Etienne, but that still might be enough for Tuten to have every week Flex value, especially in PPR leagues.

The big winner for the Denver Broncos offense on Sunday was wide receiver Troy Franklin. He jumped up from 59% of snaps to 83% this week, and that helped him secure eight catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. Some of those snaps came at the expense of Marvin Mims Jr. and Courtland Sutton, who combined for just three catches for 30 yards. Those two players should be fine down the road, but if Troy Franklin has secured the WR3 role, he should be rostered in fantasy leagues.

In Week 1, Elic Ayomanor was fifth in the entire league in air yards with 133. He only caught two passes for 13 yards, but it was a sign of things to come. He saw another 69 air yards in Week 2, but this time turned six targets into four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown. He tied Calvin Ridley for the team league in targets, and it appears that Cam Ward is going to heavily target both of them this season.

Juwan Johnson is now a must-start in fantasy football after nine more targets against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 2. He leads all tight ends in targets and put up a 5-49-1 line after catching eight balls in 76 yards in Week 1. Johnson will be a priority waiver add for leagues where he is still available, but he should be considered a top-eight player at the position until further notice.

Who to Stream in Week 2

Mac Jones is a must-stream this week if Brock Purdy misses again. And with how Jones played against New Orleans, why would they rush him back? Jones played quite well, throwing for 279 passing yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. He did exactly what Kyle Shanahan asked him to do and let his playmakers gain yards and put them in scoring position. Now the 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals, who just let Spencer Rattler throw for 207 yards and three touchdowns.

Michael Penix Jr. has relied a lot on the legs of Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier through the first two games of the season, but he does have 433 total passing yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown so far. This week, he gets the Carolina Panthers and their record-setting defense from 2024 (record-setting like in a bad way). Kyler Murray just threw for 220 yards and rushed for another 32 against this defense in Week 2.

Chig Okonkwo saw everything from usage to production go up from Week 1 to Week 2. His targets from Cam Ward increased from four to six. His stat line was four catches for 35 yards, and he was tied for the team lead with his six targets last week. Okonkwo now catches the Indianapolis Colts, who have been a revelation on offense, but just mediocre on defense. They allowed three passing touchdowns in Week 2, including one to backup tight end Adam Trautman.

Ja’Tavion Sanders saw his involvement in the Carolina Panthers’ offense explode in Week 2. He caught seven passes for 54 yards, he had nine targets from Bryce Young (up from three in Week 1), and he even had four red zone targets, which was second on the team. The Panthers host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2.

Fantasy Football Injuries to Monitor

Joe Burrow suffered a turf toe injury that has unfortunately so severely damaged the ligaments that he will need surgery and is likely to miss three months of action. The best-case scenario is that he returns for the last couple of games of the season, but if the Cincinnati Bengals are out of the playoff hunt, there will be no incentive for that to happen. Jake Browning will take over as quarterback, and the Bengals are likely to bring someone in to compete with him or take over the backup job.

Brock Purdy missed Week 2 with a toe injury but apparently has a chance to return in Week 3. With how Mac Jones played against the Saints on Sunday, there is no real reason to rush Purdy back until he is absolutely ready to go.

Jayden Daniels popped up on the injury report with a knee injury after their Thursday night loss to the Green Bay Packers. The team believes it to be a knee sprain and that he is day-to-day. Marcus Mariota would be the backup if Daniels can’t go, so Daniels’ practice participation will be key this week.

JJ McCarthy suffered a high ankle sprain in the loss to Minnesota on Sunday night and will reportedly miss 2-4 weeks. He was beaten up all night, including six sacks and three turnovers, so this will give him a chance to reset while he heals his ankle. Carson Wentz is the next man up in Minnesota.

Justin Fields left in the second half of his game against the Buffalo Bills with a concussion and was still in the concussion protocol as of Monday afternoon. If he does not clear by the next few days, expect Tyrod Taylor to step up and start for the Jets against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Aaron Jones has a hamstring strain that has early indications pointing towards him missing a week or two of games. This is a concerning injury for an older player who has had soft-tissue injuries before, but until we hear more official news from the Vikings, Aaron Jones should be considered day-to-day.

Jayden Reed was already dealing with a healing Jones fracture in his foot, and now he will miss 6-8 weeks with a broken collarbone suffered on Thursday Night Football. This means all of Tucker Kraft, Matthew Golden, Romeo Doubs, and Dontayvion Wicks could see a couple of more targets per game from Jordan Love.
