🎄'Twas the Night Before the NFL Draft

also news and dynasty

The 2025 NFL Draft is just one day away, and that noise you hear is those with mock draft fatigue dancing in the streets. In today’s newsletter, I’ve crafted a poem to celebrate this occasion, plus we’ll hear from Ryan McDowell from DLF with some useful dynasty info.

‘Twas the Night Before the 2025 NFL Draft: A Poem

‘Twas the night before the 2025 Draft, when all around the NFL 🏈,

Rumors were swirling, would teams trade up, down, or sell?

The GMs and coaches were feverishly working on their draft boards,

Hoping their guys would fall to them, even praying to the NFL overlords 🙏🏼.

What we know is that QB Cam Ward will likely be the first player taken,

But what will follow is sure to leave fans shaken 🤯.

Will Travis Hunter to the Browns follow that first pick?

Or will another team trade up, likely making draft pundits sick?

Ashton Jeanty is tops in this rushing class🦵🏼,

But rumors of his landing spot between Vegas, Jax, or other cities have picked up some recent gas 💨.

Edge rushers and O-linemen should also dominate the first round,

Where in the Green Room, Tyler Booker, Jihaad Campbell, Abdul Carter, Mathew Golden, and Malaki Starks will be found 📸.

Roger Goodell will stand by the podium to a rousing tune of boos 👻,

Giving out every pick with a cringey hug, which player will each NFL team choose?

There will be Will Campbell, Armand Membou, Kelvin Banks Jr., and Gray Zabel announced from the o-line,

With corners Jahdae Barron, Will Johnson, Trey Amos, and Shavon Revel Jr. all ready to shine 🌟.

Cut to their families and friends celebrating at draft parties and home 🎉,

and sometimes the awkward girlfriend shot while she’s standing alone.

It’s an exciting time for the men who’ve worked so hard to get to this place,

and an equally interesting scenario watching draftniks with egg on their face.

No matter what happens on Thursday after the last name has been said 📛,

the 2025 NFL Draft is finally here, so cheers to finally knowing where these rookies will lay their head 🏟️.

Welcome to DLF Roundup. Each week, Ryan McDowell brings you a quick look at some of the dynasty happenings taking place over at Dynasty League Football.

The countdown to the 2025 NFL Draft has now shifted from months and weeks, then days and now mere hours. Yes, in just over 24 hours, the Tennessee Titans will kick off one of the biggest events of the off-season.

At DLF, we’ve been in countdown mode for some time and we capped off that long wait with our “Vie From” series. In this annual collection of a dozen articles, our team examines what dynasty managers can expect when picking from each draft position in a 12-team rookie draft. Along with giving suggestions for how to spend first-round selections, we dig into the later rounds along with various formats.

Here’s a recap of all twelve articles in one handy spot.

Also, here’s what you can expect, thanks to DLF’s Andrew Francesconi, who examined what to do with the 2.04 pick after drafting Tetairoa McMillan in the first round....

Rookie Selection 2.04

The Pick: Tre Harris, WR Ole Miss

We go from McMillan, who has one of the most complete production profiles, to Harris, who has one of the most confusing profiles. There are a lot of things to like about Harris and a lot to be worried about. By now, everyone has seen is mind-blowing 5.1 yards per route run metric from the 2024 season. This is an astonishing number that’s hard to even contextualize. However, it comes on a small sample size and is skewed by a few games against FCS and G5 competition.

There are also concerns about his age and relatively slow breakout. While he’s no Xavier Legette, Harris definitely benefited from getting increasingly older compared to his competition. Throw in a relatively limited route tree and awkward running style, and we’ve got a polarizing prospect.

He is a Rorschach test come alive; everyone can see whatever they’d like from his profile because there are so many positives and negatives. He seems like the perfect second-round rookie pick because there’s a shot he increases in value in a big way, but if he busts, you won’t be too upset about it.

You could pivot to Jayden Higgins if he gets better draft capital or Colston Loveland if he lands in an excellent spot in the first round.

Trade Value

Possible Pivots

  • Colston Loveland, TE Michigan

  • Cam Skattebo, RB Arizona State

  • Jayden Higgins, WR Iowa State

1QB Options

  • Bills RB James Cook hasn’t reported to voluntary OTAs. The 25-year-old, currently signed through the 2025 season at a base salary of $5.3 million, is seeking an extension worth $15 million per season, per ESPN.

  • Meanwhile, QB Kirk Cousins did show up at the Falcons’ facility despite swirling trade rumors. Signs pointed to Atlanta releasing Cousins this offseason, but instead, they held onto him in hopes of getting some value. With a cap hit of $40 million in 2025, he would be a ridiculously expensive backup to Michael Penix if the Falcons don’t secure a trade for him before the start of this season.
