šŸ„„ Week 13 Survivor Picks

Mailbag and Bet of the Week

Together with GameBlazers: The Next Generation of Fantasy Sports

Last nightā€™s game was a pleasant shock to most, so hopefully the rest of Week 13 will deliver. Today Iā€™m opening the mailbag, getting Connor Allenā€™s bet of the week, giving out some survivor pool picks, and of course the happenings over at 4for4.

Q: Would you hold on to the Ravens D through their bye or drop and pickup a team with a better playoff schedule(15-17)? The Ravens have the Rams, @Jax, @SF, and Mia after their bye. The D's available with good playoff schedules are the Colts, Texans, Rams. Would you prefer any of these over the Ravens? -SteelDan

A: Baltimoreā€™s schedule is not the best for the fantasy playoffs, however, they are still a superior defense. I would bank on their talent in those contests over a mediocre unit. Of those three postseason games, the 49ers are the toughest opponent since they rank first in DST aFPA, yielding just 3.8 fantasy points per game, but the Jaguars and Dolphins sit 14th and 25th in that metric, allowing 7.0 and 9.2 points respectively. If you can hold them through the bye and grab another DST for Week 16 that could work, or just hope they can contain the 49ers and play them.

If you canā€™t afford to keep the Ravens, the Colts would be my preference out of the three options you mentioned above.

Q: Can I trust Khalil Shakir moving forward, I picked him up this week after a few solid games. - D. Heff

A: All Bills WRs come with some risk since that offense boasts a plethora of weapons, but Shakir has been trending in the right direction. Heā€™s posted at least 45 receiving yards in four of his last five contests and has been on the field for 71% or more of the snaps since Week 9. Buffalo has shootout potential in their next three contests (KC, DAL, LAC) so Shakir could pop while defenders focus more on Stefon Diggs and Dalton Kincaid.

Q: Do you play defense and pickup players your opponent may need for the playoffs? -@Gby395

At this point in the season, no, unless thereā€™s a glaringly obvious player someone dropped sitting on the waiver wire that I donā€™t necessarily need. For now, I want the best squad possible to maximize points and either secure a playoff spot or possibly get a bye. Once the postseason gets underway, I will play a little defense if I see a hole or two in my opponentā€™s roster and can afford the pickup.

Brandon Aiyuk over 61.5 receiving yards (-115 at DK, MGM, CZRS, 62.5 at FD fine too)

This is an absolute smash spot for Aiyuk. The Eagles' secondary has routinely been whipped by outside wideouts where Aiyuk lines up the majority of the time, allowing the third-most receptions per game to outside wideouts (9.6). The Eagles have allowed 15 wideouts to clear 61 receiving yards already this season and 7 to clear 90 yards! They are 30th in explosive pass rate allowed and play a good bit of man defense. Rich Hribar pulled a great note: "Philadelphia is playing man coverage 32.0% of passing snaps, seventh in the league. Against man coverage, Aiyuk has been targeted on a team-high 29.9% of his routes while averaging 4.16 yards per route run!" There is truly nuclear potential here for Aiyuk, especially if we get a bit more passing volume than the 49ers normally get. I thought this would drop in the high-60's so getting 61 is really strong.

Risk 1.15 units to win 1 unit on over 61.5 receiving yards

Youā€™ve made it this far so getting eliminated from a survivor pool now isnā€™t ideal. Thanks to our friends at PoolGenius, I can easily use the ā€œholy trinityā€ of analysis to make educated selections for Week 13.

The Holy Trinity Explained:

  • Win odds (how likely a team is to win, especially compared to other options)

  • Pick popularity (the percentage of opponents you expect to pick that team)

  • Future value (how useful that team should be as a future week pick)

Letā€™s get to this weekā€™s picks:

šŸ¬ Miami Dolphins @ Commanders - (Tied for Highest Spread)

  • Point Spread: -9.5

  • Win Odds: 80% (T1st)

  • Pick Popularity: 2% (6th)

  • Future Value: 3rd

šŸ” Steelers vs. Cardinals - (Third Most Popular)

  • Point Spread: -5.5

  • Win Odds: 70% (5th)

  • Popularity: 21% (3rd)

  • Future Value: 9th

šŸ Rams vs. Browns - (Lower Popularity-Decent Odds)

  • Point Spread: -3.5

  • Win Odds: 63% (9th)

  • Popularity: 3% (5th)

  • Future Value: 11th
