TNF Preview and A Look Ahead

Buffalo taking on Miami in South Florida on a Thursday? Weā€™ll take it! Welcome to this edition of the Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter, where Iā€™ll cover Week 2 ranks, a look ahead, the TNF matchup, and of course the happenings over at 4for4.

All rankings are based on half-PPR scoring. For full ranks in a variety of scoring formats, head to 4for4.com.

Quarterbacks

What stands out: Kyler Murray gets a mild bump courtesy of a nice matchup, and the same goes for Jared Goff who thanks to the scheduling powers is at home again this week where he tends to thrive. You wonā€™t find Jow Burrow up here as heā€™s the QB18 in KC.

Running Backs

What stands out: Christian McCaffrey is still a question mark along with Deā€™Von Achane and Ken Walker. Otherwise, the top ranks are fairly chalky.

Wide Receivers

What stands out: Cooper Kupp moves within the top 5 as the clear WR1 in LA for now, while Garrett Wilson falls to the 12 spot after a mediocre Week 1 outing.

Tight Ends

What stands out: After a brutal start to the season for TEs as a whole we get a fresh new week. Both Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews are among the top 12 and hybrid Taysom Hill sneaks in.

Staying ahead of league mates can be a difference-maker in fantasy football. Stashing players a week ahead for streaming or eventual bye-week fill-ins can give us that edge we all crave. Here are some players with either great Week 2 matchups, or theyā€™re in the position for more volume based on injuries ahead of them.

šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļø Alexander Mattison, RB - Raiders (27% rostered)

Mattison had five rushing attempts for 19 yards with another four catches for 43 yards and a touchdown in LA. The former Vikingā€™s nine touches to Zamir Whiteā€™s 15 may hint at a more committee approach than originally anticipated for the Raiders backfield. Mattison ran 22 routes (9 for White) which is also encouraging considering Vegas may be playing from behind this season. Itā€™s too early to tell if Week 1 was sustainable, but Mattison could be worth a bench spot for those RB-needy teams.

šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļø Bucky Irving, RB - Buccaneers (28% rostered)

The rookieā€™s usage was encouraging against the Commanders, as Irving carried the ball nine times for 62 yards and caught two of his three targets for an additional 14 yards. Not only did he see a decent chunk of the RB volume, but Irving was efficient on the ground, posting 6.9 yards per carry to starter Rachaad Whiteā€™s 2.9. If that competency in rushing continues, we may see an uptick in carries for Irving as the season progresses, with White being used more for receiving work.

šŸ§² Adonai Mitchell, WR - Colts (27% rostered)

Michell was this close to being the hottest waiver wire player for Week 1, as he was open for two what could have been huge touchdowns but both balls were misthrown by Anthony Richardson. Despite the accuracy issues on those specific throws, we saw Richardson nail several other solid passes so when that chemistry kicks in, watch out. Some good news is that Mitchell was second in targets and third in routes run, and his talent indicates he is capable of passing Alec Pierce in the pecking order for deep balls, making him relevant even when Josh Downs returns. Mitchell may not be playable yet, but some patience may be rewarded here.

šŸ¶ Jameis Winston, QB - Browns (1% rostered)

You all saw that Week 1 performance from Deshaun Watson too, right? Stashing QBs that arenā€™t starting is not something I normally recommend in redraft leagues, but Winston is someone who has won fantasy leagues for many in the past and he could do it again if the poor QB play continues in Cleveland. The weapons are there for success, so if you have a deeper bench, are not so confident in your current QB situation, and can swing it, grabbing Winston now could be a fruitful decision.

Tonightā€™s AFC East showdown between Buffalo and Miami is always a fun one and getting it this early in the season is a bonus. Plenty of fantasy pieces are involved in this one, so letā€™s find a contest to play.
