TNF Review and Looking Ahead

The Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter is now coming to your inbox seven days a week throughout the NFL season! In this Thursday edition, we’ll cover Week 3 ranks, a look ahead, the TNF matchup, and of course the happenings over at 4for4.

*Every Friday will feature a mailbag segment so if you have any questions you want answered, please send them to [email protected] by Thursday afternoon at 3:00 PM ET. Thanks!

All rankings are based on half-PPR scoring. For full ranks in a variety of scoring formats, head to 4for4.com.

Quarterbacks

What stands out: Both Justin Fields and Joe Burrow have fallen out of the Top 12 and Dak Prescott has entered the starting QB conversation in Week 3.

Running Backs

What stands out: Three new RBs move into RB1 territory as Travis Etienne and Raheem Mostert have been playing well and boast nice matchups this week, while Kyren Williams’ emergence as the Rams lead back lands him as RB12.

Wide Receivers

What stands out: A tough contest against Denver and a questionable tag send Jaylen Waddle out of the Top 12 and he’s replaced with a highly productive DeVonta Smith.

Tight Ends

What stands out: Thankfully the yellow questionable tags are gone in the TE scene this week and it’s business as usual.

Staying ahead of league mates can be a difference-maker in fantasy football. Stashing players a week ahead for streaming or eventual bye-week fill-ins can give us that edge we all crave. Here are some players with either great Week 4 matchups, or they’re in the position for more volume based on injuries ahead of them.

🔷 Tyjae Spears, RB (TEN) - Spears was on the field more than Derrick Henry in Week 2 when it came to actual snaps (54% to 48%) but of course, their workload wasn’t distributed in the same manner. Spears did see a respectable 10 touches against the Chargers despite being limited throughout the week with a groin injury and should continue to carve out a role as the complement to Henry. He can't be counted on yet to insert into lineups, but the explosive Spears makes for a nice stash for what could be coming.

🧲 Josh Downs, WR (IND) - There’s a clear connection brewing between rookie slot receiver Josh Downs and fellow newbie QB Anthony Richardson. Downs sits second in the Indy offense in targets with 12 and could come on as an exciting option in points per reception formats as the season progresses.

🪺 Mack Hollins, WR (ATL) - In a surprising plot twist, Mack Hollins is second in the Atlanta offense in targets after two games behind Bijan Robinson, not Drake London. I wouldn’t read too much into that because HC Arthur Smith is going to keep Arthur Smithing, but Hollins is entrenched as the No. 2 WR here and could see fantasy-relevant work moving forward. The Falcons have a pretty soft schedule on the horizon with contests against the Lions, Jaguars, and Texans over the next three weeks. If you have room, Hollins could pay off as a bench stash when bye weeks kick in.

🧢 Jalin Hyatt, WR (NYG)- The rookie had a roller coaster of an offseason in the fantasy community but showed us why some drafted him in Week 2. Jalin Hyatt’s 58-yard catch to start the second half was a catalyst for the Giants' first score of the 2023 season, and the 21-year-old also showcased his deep-threat ability several times on Sunday. It’s tough to predict how the New York WR room will shake out after two wild contests, but Hyatt could emerge as the No. 2 threat behind Darren Waller, particularly if Saquon Barkey misses significant time.

The Giants have a difficult tilt in Week 3 against the 49ers but face the forgiving Seahawks in Week 4.

We get a classic old-school matchup this week with the Giants traveling west to face the 49ers. San Francisco is off to a hot start at 2-0 while New York is still shaking the rust off.
