⭐️ Week 8 Fantasy Football Ranks

TNF Preview and A Look Ahead to Next Week

Tampa Bay at Buffalo? We’ll take it. Welcome to Thursday’s edition of the Deep Dive Fantasy Newsletter, where I’ll cover Week 8 ranks, a look ahead, the TNF matchup, and of course the happenings over at 4for4.

All rankings are based on half-PPR scoring. For full ranks in a variety of scoring formats, head to 4for4.com.

Quarterbacks

What stands out: Rookie C.J. Stroud makes his first appearance in the Top 12, while Kirk Cousins finds himself back after some time away. Sam Darnold cracks starting QB territory if Brock Purdy doesn’t clear concussion protocol before Sunday.

Running Backs

What stands out: Besides way too many questionable tags for my liking, there were some shifts in the RB1 category this week. Josh Jacobs and D’Andre Swift fall out, and Jahmyr Gibbs and Jonathan Taylor join the top of the pack.

Wide Receivers

What stands out: Puka Nacua is back in WR1 territory despite a tough matchup this week in Jerry World and Adam Thielen breaks into the Top 12 at home against Houston.

Tight Ends

What stands out: Dalton Kincaid joins fellow rookie Sam LaPorta at the top, while their other 2023 NFL Draft-mate Luke Musgrave falls down to TE22 this week. Kyle Pitts drops out of the TE1 conversation and is replaced by Inspector Taysom Hill.

Staying ahead of league mates can be a difference-maker in fantasy football. Stashing players a week ahead for streaming or eventual bye-week fill-ins can give us that edge we all crave. Here are some players with either great Week 8 matchups, or they’re in the position for more volume based on injuries ahead of them.

🪺 Kyler Murray, QB (ARI) - Murray’s 21-day practice window opened last week. The team wants to take their time with the quarterback's return so he’ll likely make his 2023 debut in either Week 9 or Week 10. It’ll be tough to find a signal-caller with his potential on the waiver wire moving forward.

🪺 Keaton Mitchell, RB (BAL)- It was a slow assimilation for Mitchell after being on the shelf with a shoulder injury to start the 2023 season. He saw just one touch: a shovel pass from Lamar Jackson, which he took for nine yards. There’s no fantasy relevancy yet but with the track record of injuries in the Baltimore RB room, it’s likely worth it to grab the explosive Mitchell now and hang on to him as insurance with the bulk of bye weeks still ahead.

🪖 Chris Rodriguez, RB (WAS)- Despite only being involved in 13% of the snaps last week for Washington, Chris Rodriguez saw the second-most carries (7) behind Brian Robinson’s eight. Robinson is still the clear lead back, but rookie Rodriguez may eat into his carries as the season progresses. This week won’t be easy against the Eagles, but you’re stashing the 23-year-old back for later this season when rookies tend to get hot.

After a rough loss at home, Tampa Bay heads north to face a Buffalo team that’s coming off their own letdown in New England. There are plenty of fantasy pieces in this contest so let’s get to it.

Injury Report

  • 🏴‍☠️ WR Chris Godwin (neck) is questionable.
